The Teaching Profession

Philippines

At age i6, I was determined not to become a teacher but to be an accountant. But with my parents' persistence, I took up the teaching profession and graduated at age 20, the youngest teacher at that time. Being at the top 5 of the competitive examination, I was called to teach even without applying for the teaching position. In my first assignment, I promised myself to embrace this career no matter how I disliked it. After years of teaching experience, I found this profession the most noble and very rewarding work. Being a second parent to innocent children, the contentment felt after molding these children is very satisfying. To cite one unforgettable incident with my former pupil ( 1969, grade two ), I received a wedding invitation from this pupil who was at the United States of America in 1991. His father tried to find my residence in Cavite, Philippines just to hand the invitation. The wedding took place at the Manila Hotel, Philippines. I could not forget my feelings of joy and pride when I was introduced at the reception by Dr. Rosauro A. Dalope, " my teacher". After 35 years in the service, I could say "I AM PROUD TO BE A TEACHER'.

hi retired teacher congratulations you made it. I am glad you finally found that you enjoyed teaching.I know it can be very rewarding to the woman who has the skills and art for it, and good teachers are hard to find, so we should all cherish them'for all they have given to our children. I am also glad that your former student honored you like that. 35 years that is indeed something to be proud of.

Your response is very much appreciated. Good teachers are really hard to find especially these days. But if the government will improve the situation I think the teachers will be inspired to work.

Wow! That's a very inspiring story. I am a teacher too. Eversince I was a kid, I idolized and admire my teachers. For me, they are in pedestal. I even hope that my parents were teachers but sad to say they're not. When i graduated in highschool, I almost change my mind to get a teaching course. I wanted to get a nursing course because it was very in demand way back 2000. But when I am in the university to enroll nursing course, I don't know why i changed my mind and get an education course instead. I do believe that teaching is my calling. after I graduated in college last 2007, I immediately took the April 2008 exam without entering a review center. The exam result went out May 2008 and I was very anxious to know if I pass, when i check the internet, "thank God" I passed the exam. I got and average score of 86.40% and one of the top 20 among all the takers of the exam. I am so thankful to God because I know He is the one behind my success. Without Him, I will not be a teacher. And I am proud to say "I AM A TEACHER".[em]thumbup[/em]

I congratulate you for choosing to be a teacher. You won't be rich for being a teacher but the love of your students is more than enough to compensate for all the hardships you'll encounter. Love your students and love your work.

For the past months my son kept on telling me to share a discussion in the mylot. I finally gave in to his request and it's quite gratifying to find 12 people who responded in my topic. Thank you for welcoming me to the community.

I had the same experience like you. I was born in hardship. My parent was rubber tappers before and they had to feed 4 children. I was the oldest in the family so I had to sacrifice everything for them. When I was about to pick my college I wanted to go and take up laws but my mother talked me into giving up my dream and be a teacher just because the teaching college provide the students with allowance every month. I had to agree with her and since we had no money and all my sibling need to go to college too. But now after over 3 years in college and 8 years teaching I am proud with what I am today. I just hope that I can keep up with the challenging world of today since I have 34 years of service left.

I guessed you're still young and you have more years to pursue your dream of becoming a lawyer...after 3 years of my teaching I tried to finish my business degree major in accountancy but I had to stop my night classes when martial law was declared in our country.

Being a teacher is really a noble work. Beside that, I always feel that teacher is always being blessed by God because they struggled day and night to pass the knowledge to their students. Sharing is caring, so this is what all teachers do. Sharing and passing all their knowledge without hoping any compensation from anyone of their students.

I believed in your comment that God blessed us teachers. One of the proofs that I was blessed by God after years of hard work was when I joined the search for The Most Outstanding Public Elementary School Teacher. Among the 19 best teacher winners in the division, I won the grand award. My trophy is one of my precious jewels in life.

I am a teacher and very proud to say so. I have been teaching for the past 32 years and just yesterday i was in an institution where some documents for me were photocopied. The person doing the photocopying said to his supervisor, "this is my teacher" and promptly came to the office to give me a hug. That made my day. No salary increase will ever supersede that moment. To all my colleagues I say "BRAVO" and to u "Thanks for the years spent in the classroom. You are special"

I have not been honored in such a way. I hope that I was influential in quite a number of lives. Some of my past students have good jobs and a few went into teaching too. However its still a satisfaction to see your past students grown up with their own family and settled into a stable job in the community. © ronaldinu 2008

I'd say that we're quite the same in some ways but different in other ways, too. I guess I got you perplexed on my initial statement but let me explain myself further. I used to imagine myself teaching little children in school but my parents and some of my relatives told me that, "it's difficult to be a teacher." Aside from this, our clan has produced many teachers already including my father, my female cousin, my uncle's wife, and two of my mom's stepsisters. They would even jokingly tell me that we could put up a school because of the number of teachers in the family. Because of this, I decided to take a course which I think I could pass at that time, and one which as they say, 'won't break the bank'. My parents sent me to school and paid for my tuition fees but I don't want them to go broke just so I could study. To make it short, I took an Accountancy course. By now, I think you already know what I mean. Though I don't feel as much fulfilled as you are now, I just tell myself that I am doing my work as expected and this is where I get the money to feed myself and my own family and for our other needs. Also, I console myself through thinking and hoping that there's still a chance that I could teach little children in the future; my future grandchildren perhaps.

Your family could put up a school in your community and you take charge of the financial aspect. It's good you followed your own decision. You could not be happy in the teaching profession if you really dislike it.

That's an inspire message.. Well, I was graduated almost 8 months ago a teaching profession.. Same as you, I don't like to be a teacher and it isn't my dream to become one.. I want to be a doctor but my parents can't afford me to send in a medical school.. Since when i got into college still thinking what course should I take aside from medicine, I had received a letter coming from the University were I want to study that I had granted a full scholarship for 4 years course but there is only one choice of course and that is teaching profession.. I really don't know if I'm going to take it or not but since I want to help my parents financially, I just took the opportunity given to me by the school.. Even though I don't really like the course that I'm taking and even sometimes I'm thinking to shift from other course still I just pursue it and convince myself that someday i will going to like it.. When I got into my last year in college and undergo practicum, the more I felt that teaching profession isn't really for me since I had never enjoyed it.. Well, even though many students told me that I'm the best student teacher they ever had still I really don't felt that I'm fit in to become a teacher.. Now that I'm already graduated my college degree still I'm not sure if I'm going to pursue my teaching profession.. As of now, I'm already working as a graphic artist in one of the hotel companies in the Philippines.. Well, I'm not sure that I'm gonna be working here for years since I'm not also happy with my work.. Honestly, I really don't know what I want.. I'm still confuse.. But since I can't still decide for my own, my parents are still the one who decide for me then I just need to do what they want me do to until I know what i really want to happen in my life.. Maybe, someday I'm gonna wake up one morning and able to tell my self that I want to teach..

Well yeah teaching is like what u have asid i am a student and have been a student all my life most of the teachers are full of book smartness but there are exceptional cases where they know and convey a meaningful message other that what is from the books an excellent teach would give u what is practical and what is applicable in life which will help the students come up in their life and would let them choose what is right ans what is wrong and not to make stupid mistakes in their life thats what i think is an excellent teach in my openion

I know that there is no great money in being a teacher. But that does not matter. I admire and love my teachers, they are in the middle of the history of a nation's formation. Teachers are with young minds hungry for a perspective. And being involve in the formation of students is difficult. I salute all teachers. :)

First nice to meet you here. I also love teaching. In my spare time i always teach in a institute. In my relative there are 7-8 families there they all are in teaching profession. Most people think that teaching means relaxation, but they dont know that just because of these peoples our country is growing in knowledge. I too be proud that i have some relatives that they are doing such kind of work.

I am also a teacher but this was purely unplanned. After my thesis defense I was invited to teach. I gave it a try and like you, I fell in love with the profession. It is very rewarding in so many ways. I plan to continue teaching. While many people look down on this profession, I do not mind them because they do not know what they are missing. I am glad I was called to teach.
