Liverpool Topping the English Premier League

First of all, I'm a Liverppol fan. I was watching the match between Liverpool and Chelsea on Sunday, which Liverpool eventually won 1-0 with great team spirit, cohesian,well-organised defense, character and fighting spirit. Now, Liverpool sits on top of the EPL with 23 points after 9 games played, 3 points ahead of Chelsea. Now, the expectations are high from Liverpool, especially when they have yet to win the most coveted trophy in the English game for more than 18 years (their last title was in 1990). So, do you think that Liverpool can withstand the pressure on being on top or will they crack under preesure once they are beaten (i.e. they have yet to loose a game this season)?. Please comment on this.

First of all welcome to MyLot. Yes, I myself loved Liverpool's performance against Chelsea. Though the goal was a bit fortuitous, Liverpool seemed most likely to score in the match with Alonso hitting the post and Gerrard going real close. Chelsea had a chance late in the game to hit through Cole, but he sliced his shot wide. Now the title race is truly a four horse race, with Hull City thrown in as an underdog. Regards, Ram PS: If you really love discussions on EPL join the interest group Soccer(http://www.mylot.com/w/lists/3_500/default.aspx). Also, there is a interest group specifically for Liverpool Football club (http://www.mylot.com/w/lists/3_34888/default.aspx) if you want it.

Thanks for the input Ram. Last night's game against Portsmouth was so tense I thought a draw was on the cards. Luckily, Liverpool won 1-0 thanks to SG's penalty. Hope that this saturday's game against spurs will generate more goals, especially from Torres and Keane. Love to see keane score against his old club. Go Liverpool go.....

Unfortunately, things went bad at Spurs and now Liverpool are back to 2nd spot on goal difference to Chelsea. Thanks for the best response. Cheers! Ram

it'll take lot more than just 9 games&23points to win the title.EPL is the toughest league in the world & any team can beat another on any day.so its too unpredictable.i'll wish u luck 4 ur liverpool to win.one thing that will take toll on liverpool is their injuries.do they hav the reserve to stand high at the time of crisis is a question of debate.being a man u fan,u know whom i'd like 2 win the title...but i'd really like 2 see more competitive football from liverpool throughout the season...best wishes

Yes, I do hope Liverpool will show more competitive and attacking football from now onwards. They do have a strong bench to cope with any unforeseen injuries, but what worries me most is their inconsistency, which is like a disease and a monkey on their back. Once they get rid of this, I bet they'll be up there fighting for honours with your Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal. Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts/ opinion and best wishes to your Man Utd....

Liverpool is a capable team, but they will have stiff competition from an always competitive premiership. Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are always at the top and are very strong. The Liverpool players that I am most impressed by, besides captain Steven Gerrard, are Dirk Kuyt and Robby Keane who has been a great addition to the fold. Why not cheer for the Cinderella Hull City or a resurgent Aston Villa?
