What does face seem so long in pictures?

When i see pictures of myself my face seems extremely long and skinny and just plain disgusting in general. but when i look into the mirror i see a somewhat good looking face that doesn't look extremely long and stretched out. so my question is, do i look more like in what some of the pictures show me as (which is the long***skinny face)or more like the mirror image i described (the good looking face)?
