Sounds gross, but one one of my lamington tins, i have that oily sticky crap that just wont come off around the border of it (dont know how else to say that lol, the edge i guess lol) - any one have suggestions of what to use to get rid of it?? I've soaked them so many times i cant remember. Haven't tried oven cleaner though, so will give it a go!

Oven cleaner and elbow grease! You should try oven cleaner on the appropriate places in a cool oven. Oven cleaner works best with gentle heat. Then you can take it to the sink and use plenty of warm water and washing-up liquid with a stiff brush. If the deposit is really bad, you may need to do this more than once. Don't forget that oven cleaner is corrosive and make sure that you wear plastic or rubber gloves. The other thing you can try is paint-remover. Since most deposits like this are greasy, a good paint remover can help but the same precautions apply, of course, about adequate ventilation and protection as apply to using any caustic substance.
