Wheelchair Repair Woes

As many of you know, I had my wheelchair implode a month ago. Today, I got news from my insurance company saying they were not going to pay for the repair because they didn't pay for repairs to neglected equipment. Excuse me, I didn't neglect anything! The thing imploded when my assistant plugged it in. I only owned it for 9 days. How much could I have neglected it even if I did? Which I didn't. Now I have to file an appeal. As I type this, I'm on hold making sure they got the fax. Lucky for me, the woman who was here working for me when the chair came can go to my appeal hearing with me and tell them that no one told me anything about the chair blowing up if it was plugged in wrong. No one even told me there was a wrong way to plug it in and she can verify all this. I wonder what happens to people who 1. have no witnesses and 2. aren't as strong of an advocate as I am. I suppose they get screwed. End of rant.

i find that you are correct because it seems that no one wants to take responsibility even if it is their fault and also many companies want to pass the buck to someone else and make the issue some one elses. perhaps you could contact the wheelchair company? what about innundating the insurance company? get your local politician to go to bat for you, see if that helps. best of luck!

I already filed my appeal. It's faxed it. I did right away because I was so mad!

That is so wrong!! My son received his chair and they set the speed on his before we left. When we got home in the house, he got caught in the doorway. He broke the controller cover and the safety sleeve. They had it in high gear and no low gear. The company refused to replace it. I do have it covered under our house insurance, but am going to let him use it until it quits working.
