Is height of a person dependent of genes?

I find that sometimes the fater and mother are really short but the child may be tall ro at times tall parents have a really short child. How does it happen if height is dependent to a large extent on genes. Does diet or exercise have anything to do with a person gaining height?

I have always wondered about this and I have never found the answer. Maybe it is a combination of different factors.Cheers!!

hi mercuryman3a well, my cousin's parents are short, but their son is tall ? i don't think the genes is not the main factor the key is swimming.. hahaa my cousin often do swimming, at least 3 times a week since he's small and you also need to get enough nutrition from the foods eat more protein and carbs since you're young the expert said that the growth will be slower and even stopped on the age 21 for men and 19-21 for women so during those ages, it's the best time for maximize our efforts more exercise and sports will help too :D .. thanks mercuryman3a !!

Partly a person's height can be from the gene. But I think the height can also be influenced by the food we eat. If we didn't eat the proper food when we are still in growing stage, then we won't grow as tall as we should. I don't think exercise will increase our height.

It could be that the child has a relative who are tall. It's really a nurture and nature thing, like me for example, I am short because my father is short, but my eldest brother is tall because my father's father is tall too. Exercise and diet helps too. Also the lifestyle. I feel like I would have been taller if I did not sleep late when I was in high school.

Hello! A proper diet with sufficient calories and the right mix of nutrients in general is what helps people grow to the desired level. But diet by itself is not responsible for whether people reach their genetic potential for height.Environmental factors such as good housing, medical care and sanitation facilities are also key.thanx.

Yeah, mostly depend on the genes, but sometimes, it is an exception to least number. But if you mean bout gaining height, you sure can improve your height. Consume more on fish, dairy product, and frequent exercise such as basketball. This can improve the height but it won't too dramatics. Consult a health consultant if you are really concern bout the height. Best Wishes.
