As a parent, I always seem to think of all the things that can go wrong and certain years I have not let my two kids trick or treat. Now they are 11 and 14 and design their own costumes so I let them go, BUT I still walk with them. What was your halloween like with children?

My kids only do trick or treating at school and to visit family. This year we only had a total of 2 treaters and they were high school age. Trick or treating sure isnt like it used to be.

Yeh, I can remember hundreds of kids descending on the small town near our farm growing up. I'm sure the kids outnumbered the regular town population every Halloween. Going back there a few years ago I saw only a dozen or so kids now.

My kids go trick or treating. I go with them of course and we stick to safe areas. They only went to about 20 houses this year. That was enough for them.

Definitely not. I heard about the latest killing of a 12 year old boy who was killed when he went for trick or treat. No I would not risk it that I put the life of my son in danger over a stupid tradition. My sons's life is much more precious than that. © ronaldinu 2008

You've got that absolutely right! The safety of our chldren should trump trivial things whenever we have it in our power to decide.

My husband and I took our 8 yr old around trick or treating. My 14 yr old met up with his friends and they went to the ice arena. They had a huge Halloween party there for the town. Everything was free. Apples, donuts, cider and pizza. They also have a haunted house and games set up where they give little toy prizes and coupons.

Nice. I always wanted to be the one hosting a Halloween party. Hopefully I still will someday . . .
