Have you ever felt so low in life? I have, I have gotten my daughter a bunny in the past he had recently died ( about 3 months ago) so about 3 weeks ago I thought that I would get her another. There was an adorable bunny that I saw and wanted to get it for her. She is 8 years old and tries very hard to take care of her pets. Well I am sad to say that her bunny got sick today and died. I knew that I should not have bought her a bunny yet but I did it anyways. She was so happy when I bought it. Now she is so upset that it is gone. I feel totally responsible, I feel like i hurt my child.

This is a difficult situation to say the least! However, you could not have known that bunny would die. This is not your fault!!! I hope you feel better about this soon, and maybe next time you could get her a fish!!

Is your daughter feeding or givingthe bunny plenty of water? Where si teh bunny kept in or out of the house? Many kids do not realize if they forget to feed a pet it will die. Many kids that age will tell you they have fed the pet when tehy haven't. I have three kids. All have said they fed a pet when they haven't. But I always ten to watch them from time to time to make sure they are taking care of the pet the right way.

Don't get me wrong. I do teach my kids the proper to care for an animal. But if it is their animal. I leave it up to them after teaching them. But do check from time to time to make sure they are still taking care of the pet. I will watch my child from a far when I tell them go feed the pet to see if they do it or not. One time we had a dog that was outside in a kennel. My oldest boy who was around 10 at the time. I told him to go feed the dog and give her fresh water. I watched from a window as he went outside and played instead. When I came in I asked him if he fed the dog. he said yes. I confronted about his lie and made him go out there and actually feed and water the dog. This got him thinking I was watching him all the time. He also knew if I caught him pulling this again the dog would be gone.

She took excellent care of her bunny. She would feed and water it right before bed. It was in her room. So yes it was very well taken care of. Thanks for posting.

Please don't feel bad if I say this but perhaps you should wait a bit longer until she learns a bit more about animal care and not just the basics like water and food but cleaning up urine spills and feces on the cage and depending whether or not the rabbit is indoors or outdoors learning how to properly winterize its house so that it does not die of exposure to the elements like my rabbit Travis it was unfortunate that it happened the way it did but if your child is 11 at least then you can get her a cat or at 14 a dog right now I would say if you still want to get her a pet try a go at a goldfish

I do not feel bad by your response, it is an honest response. But I do have to say that my daughter was extremely responsible when it came to her bunnies. She cleaned cages, watered, feed and most of all loved them. We did what ever else the bunny needed that she could not. I appreciate the response though and we will be waiting to get another animal.

Hi, Lisa0502. Sorry to hear that. But why not try to breed other kinds of pets which are easy to breed and easy to grow up. How about the cat? It's said the cat has nine lives. Bubby is so cute and ofcourse little girls like bubby very much. But cat is nice pet too, have a try.

That is so sad, this is one of the reasons I will not buy my children pets. My daughter has fallen in love with my parents budgie, she is only two but everyone keeps saying I should get her one of her own. I thought about it for a birthday present but then I thought about the down sides of that idea, it dying being one of them. I can imagine you are blaming yourself but it is not your fault, and I am sure your daughter will not see it like that either.

It's a terrible feeling isn't it, but there's no way that you could have known it would happen. I know people say that children have to learn to deal with grief, but it's hard to watch them go through it. I was just thinking that, if you used the same cage and all that the other rabbit used, there may have been an infection there that passed to the next resident. I don't know, but I was just thinking of parvovirus in dogs. You can't have another dog in the yard for twelve months (I think that's the length of time. It could be longer) after a dog with parvovirus has been there, because the infection is still active in the ground.

Aww, don't blame yourself, how could it be your fault? As much as we wish we could, we can never shelter our children from hurt and pain. If you get another one just watch out because they like to chew wires if you let them loose. I had one and was typing away on my computer when it just turned off. I looked down at my feet and there she was chewing away, one wire from being fried. The next day the girl that gave him to me says "Oh I forgot to tell you she chews wires, she chewed all ours".

Thanks for your response. I know that I can not shelter her. It was just a big surprise with how young the bunny was.

Hi mommmy! You know pretty well that you had good intentions. Don't be too hard on yourself, okay!? The mere fact that you were thinking of ways to cheer up your child is plain proof that you're a good mom. ;) Just be there for your kid, comfort her on her loss. Divert her attention with other things, something that can bring back that smile on her face. Wish you both well.

Yes, I felt so low when my officemates were making fun of me because somebody told them a CREATED story. It makes me wanna cry and faint in front of them because even though I want to say something or to defend myself, they don't believe me. I almost melt down while I was eating my lunch because I have this weird feeling that have bad impressions about me. Huhuhu
