Does your cat ever try to eat weird stuff?

My cat just tried to eat the label that came off a magazine. It was sort of curled up and torn and she put the label in her mouth and gummed it. Of course, I took the label out of her mouth before she could swallow it. Other times, I've caught my cat eating bits of thread. What makes cats do wacky things like try to swallow labels or thread or weird stuff?

Hi Beautyqueen, LOL, my cats both love cheese (I wonder if that is why they love mice also LOL) Whenever I grate cheese on the side they are there on the floor for any stray bits bless. They do make me laugh. Huggles. Ellie :D

Isn't it the truth! My cats always know how to cheer me up, even when the weather is bad.

Yes, mine does. Unfortunately, if you don't catch him, he is throwing it back up. He will eat thread and paper, lately he has started chewing on cords, and that is not good.

I am not really sure if our cat does that anymore or not, then we have an outside cat, and I don't know if he does or not either. The inside cat is a girl, I don't see her eating weird stuff. Our dogs do though, they will eat anything if it's on the floor, and have even eaten money before too! I know that my fiance and his mom have said that when the girl indoor cat was younger she would eat plants.

My one cat will try to eat the little peanuts that comes in packagig, what a silly kitty. While I am thinking he wants to play with them, in his mind he has discovered a new treat He also like to eat fish food, after my husband feeds the fish, Jakie, is waiting patiently for his. That cat food smells so bad, I do not know why he likes it.

It is instinctual for an animal to eat and eat what they need. And they will scratch and chew as well. Especially indoor cats. It may smell good to them. It may even be something they think they need for fiber or ? Cats are cats. They are nothing if not mysterious.

maybe it smells or tastes like something they like to eat. or maybe they are hungry. my cat tells me if he is still hungry.

its called oOoOo Shiny Syndrome. if its shiny.. or sparkly.. or catches their attention in any way.. they WILL go after it.. smack it around.. chase it.. and ventually attempt to eat it. my cat this morning attacked the roll of toilet paper and got a peice of it stuck to the roof of his mouth. it was rather entertaining to watch

I have two cats and one of them loves eating the bristles from my dustpan brush. He will eat it and eat it( if I don't stop him) and then he will inevitably throw up. I hate him doing it, because my dustpan brush is ruined and my lovely puss lives me a disgusting mess to clean up. He is not as bad as my dog though. I was cleaning out the cat litter trays, one day, and I placed the trays outside so I could wash them out, turned away and when I turned back I saw my dogs licking her chops, she had just eaten all the cat pooh that was in the litter trays! I still won't let her lick me, yuk!

My cat stole my mom's broccoli at dinner tonight! She had the broccoli on a fork and the cat just came up and started licking it. She chewed on it a little, then batted it around until it fell on the floor and the dog came and finished it. My cats definitely eat a lot of weird stuff. One of the cat's favorite food is honeydew melon.

our cats at home eat almost anything! i mean, it might seem disgusting to some, but they eat just about everything that moves... that includes mice, geckos, lizards, birds, and even cockroaches! once, i saw one of our cats walking away from the remains of this huge butterfly! sad to say, it was about to lay eggs... i wonder how he caught it! like the way they also eat birds and once they brought home a carcass of a marsh bird, it seemed like a wren... and yes, they also eat plants, too, from time to time...
