Customer service is designed to enhance the level of customers satisfaction. Why do you think good customer service is important?

Customer service is important to retain customers. Customers are volatile in nature and if we don't handle them right, they will find some one else who does.

Well customer service is important TO ME because if I don't get good customer service I won't be a customer of that business again or for much longer. I don't care how good or cheap a product might be, if I get poor customer service from the company, I will complain and/or make steps to stop being their customer. I have always provided excellent levels of customer service in my jobs, be it to external or internal customers and I expect the same in return AND I don't expect people to expect a tip for giving me good customer service. If they do over and above in their job if they are (for example) a waiter/waitress I might consider it but they should not assume that I will give them my hard earned money just because they smiled at me.
