What happened in the Alaska election with Stevens?

Last I could find all the results were not in but it looked like he might acutally win re-election. ANyone heard anything final? He has said that if it looked like Congress would expel him he would resign. Which would leave the state open for a stand in til the next election. I could see Palin taking that the seat. Loose the VP spot but get a seat in Congress. Not a completely bad trade off. DO you think he should resign? Should congress expel him? Who will take his spot if that happens?

I think the election to close to call Palin needs to stay in Alaska as Governor and look after her children and husband

That was a sexist remark. We have several women in congress right now who have children. Children that are not grown and out of the house. Plus several of the congressmen have large families? Should they stay at home and take care of their families and not be in congress? Of course not. Well we have a black president so America is not considered racist anymore. Is it going to take a until we get a woman as president before we stop being sexist?

The last I heard also it's still too close to call. I can't believe it, I never thought the people of Alaska would return an 84 year old convicted felon to the Senate, but it sure looks like they did. Jay Leno said something about the loser's concession speech. Imagine how he must feel! I would certainly hope the Senate expels him, although they don't HAVE TO, but with the much bigger Democratic majority I can't imagine them letting him stay. The latest scenario I've heard is if he does indeed get elected and take office then get expelled Palin can't just appoint herself but she can resign as Governor and her Lieutenant Governor would step in and appoint Palin to the Senate seat. I think it's all a bit "iffy" but someone said that happened many years ago in another state.I have to admit, "Senator Sarah Palin" would be quite interesting and I think the comedians would love it! Stevens was so into the oil exec pockets it was not funny. If nothing else she would be good for a least knocking them back down a peg or two.

even though the Senate GOP needs Stevens vote for filibursters, I really no not like the idea of him being in the Senate. He should have not even ran, but yes I hope he would resign. Maybe Sarah would take his seat, she would be better than him. Maybe Sarah could turn herself into the American version of Margaret Thatcher. I just heard on the radio that the AP has declared that Gordon Smith Republican Senator from Oregon has losed to Jeff Merkley.

Another seat lost. Man. THis is getting ugly. I hope he does win, then steps down. Then they get to appoint someone to serve in his place til hte next election. I think Palin would be great for it.
