A deeper answer would partly depend on cultural beliefs and religious backgrounds. For example long ago there were people in Malaysia who gave 'bad' names to their offspring in the belief this will prevent their offspring from being taken away by the spirits. Would you call your offspring 'Ugly'? It happened. In Islam we are encouraged to give good names to our offspring because they represent our wish. Do the names affect character? Giving good names do not automatically endow the desired character(s)on our children. I know people whose behaviour is totally the opposite to the meaning of their names. Children need to be taught to be good or otherwise. They follow the examples shown by others around them. As for adults we become what we think we are.

Hey tabish8612! It does effect a little but not much! Normaly our name is filled with hope/best wishes of parents or relatives. That's why parents are serious with our name.

From my opinion, I think a person's name does have a little contribution on a person's character because the name is being called throughout our life. In the Chinese believes, there are people who ask a master to help them to count the number of strokes in their names to see whether their names bring them luck or not. If not, they will request to have a change to that chinese character. There are examples of people who have been much more luck after a change of name. A lot of famous popular Chinese artist did that as well. Not sure if this is superstitious but no harm to believe it if good things come after the changes.

Based on what I have experienced in life I do not think that name does truely effect character, although I am sure psychologists would tell you differently. A person shouldnt shape their character to suit their name but user their character to define their name.
