Our company allows jeans. They don't really care how we come in as long as we do our work right and on time - and of course look "decent" which is just the opposite of "indecent" which in turn means showing private parts, etc. So jeans are good - actually we're all wearing jeans. I'm a software developer by the way. And I think it has to do with the nature of the work - we don't really speak with customers directly, we just sit in front of our computers and do the job :)

thanks for spending a time to reply and it's good to hear that you are a software developer. i am a fresher and just few days back working in a mnc company i am a bcom graduate and even i sit for a long time before monitor and process checks but i feel pain in my eyes as looking for long time to the monitor. how you software developers sit like that for a long time? great. we use the software created by you all. ya all bpo companies wanna candidates to work at night only. you are lucky that you are allowed to wear jeans. i wish you a bright future

Regarding the pain you feel when staring at the computer for a long time, you should do some relaxation "exercises". Like stare at a distant object every after 20 minutes that you stare in the monitor. And walk around if you could during your break time. :)

I have often wondered why more companies don't allow jeans in the workplace. It would make a lot more sense for people to wear jeans in certain jobs, especially in the restaurant industry. The restaurant I work in makes us wear light colored khaki pants to work. Every stain and grease spatter shows up on those light colored pants like someone is shining a light on them. It would make a lot more sense for us to wear dark colored blue jeans. Another good example of a dress code that did not fit the job is when I worked at a grocery store as a bag-boy right after I got out of high-school. They required us to wear light colored khakis, a WHITE shirt, and tie. The result was that both the light pants and the white shirt got filthy from leaning in and out of cars and rubbing against them all day as we worked. This is yet another example of a situation where blue jeans and a nice pullover shirt or t-shirt would have made more sense. Khakis and a WHITE shirt (with a tie no less) made absolutely no sense when working around cars all day. I guess at some point, in an effort to look professional, common sense on the part of the corporate people who set the dress codes goes right out the window. Then again, how much common sense do most of those corporate types really have. Most of them are just college book smart. A lot of them have never actually done the jobs for which they set the dress codes. Their college degrees, not experience, got them their high-level jobs. I wonder how many of the corporate people who set the dress codes at that grocery store ever actually bagged groceries?

There are some companies that allow them but that would depend on the nature of the company and the job. In the office it wouldnt look that nice to the clients if the employees are on jeans. In the field it would be more easier and comfortable wearing jeans than a suit. Guess the reason why most companies dont allow jeans is professionalism. Employees would look professionals in proper attire and in turn it would make the companies look good and build their reputation.

Where I just worked they did not allow denim - blue jean fabric for anything, even in dresses or skirts! However I would see some in different colored denim other than blue and it was acceptable. What was even funnier is they gave you a blue denim shirt embroidered with their logo to wear on casual Fridays and that was okay! I was told some abused it by wearing ragged or patched up not "new looking" and so it was "not professional"! I think it was set "back in the day" when jeans were not considered "classy"! I have seen many other things that looked cheaper or worse to me than jeans, but they don't care about my opinion! LOL! At home wearing jeans!!
