Do you think a writing career is an ideal job?

Especially for someone who likes to write. Do you think that this would be a job you would like to do? Or do you rather read than write? If you like to read books, what types of books do you like to read? If you like to write what is your favorite types of things to write about? I think I would like to write more I have been writing a little at associate content, do any of you write over there also?

freelance writing is a very difficult field that doesnt pay that well because there are many out there that fancy themselves as a writer (including myself). the pay is not that great anymore like it used to be. i used to get quite a bit for an article but not that much anymore.

This is something that can be a chore to do, but at the same time if You get paid for it can be very worthwhile. I think as long as You have a topic that Your interested it's not so bad, you gotta have a creative mind also. If I were to write about hockey I would find that pretty easy and could write all day long, but if someone else gives me a topic that I'm not interested in at all it would definitely be a chore and seem like work to me.

maybe the pay will go up again when people who are only in it for the money decide to go to work doing something else. I would like to be able to make enough to pay the bills all of them off and then at least be able to stay current, on everything.

writing as a career is not for everybody and this is quite difficult to do. blogging for example is not easy to do. to simply post topics are easy but to make it interesting to read, worth reading and have people subscribe or follow your blog is anothing thing.

I really like to write I have been writing on and off for about a year now on associate content, I think that that is a good site to get encouragment to at least try as you can get paid, I have been getting paid, just not a whole lot, but I figure the more I practice the better I'll get hopefully, so far I do have a few subcribers, but I need to increase my page views, I also need to write a whole lot more. I would like to start making a lot better than I am at the moment. But little by little I am doing better I think.but that is just my opinion of the matter.

If I had the talent for writing I would write as a profession. Unfortunately, I do not have the talent nor the imagination to do it. I just scribble a few things, something which cannot be considered good writing. I wrote a few articles at Helium. Cheers!!!

I think that the being a writer in a great job, but it does not pay alot...because the barrier to entry in not so great. You see the jobs that pay the most are the ones that have large barriers of entry. These gateways are protected by professional associations, trade unions, and government regulations. If you think about it, there is no barrier to entry to write, except for talent. But if this is your dream, turn it into reality...by hard work and paying your dues. Then you'll be successful.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, I do like to write and have always liked to write, I tried very hard to write even when I was in the first grade I would write pages and pages of stuff. I find it relaxing for the most part, except when my brain takes a vacation and forgets to ask permission lol. I hate getting writers block, oh and the one biggest problem I have had with writing ever since I have learned to write is with sentence fragments and run on sentences, (even in the first grade) lol

I think if you are a very good writer, it can be an extraordinary job. Just imagine, you write a book once, and you get paid over and over, as long as there is demand for that particular book. I give you a good example, J.K. Rowling, the famous female author of the Harry Potter series. I mean, that's an example of someone, who was not famous at all before she wrote that book. She was not famous and she was not rich. And no, she wasn't the best friend of the manager of a book publishing company. She's successful because her book was really good. So I think, if you believe you can do it, and you take actions to improve yourself as a writer, and product a very good book, I don't see any reasons why you can't succeed. There are many publishers out there who will give you a chance. You have to do some research first though.

I agree with you, someone just has to believe they can, and then go ahead. I would like to do so well as she has, maybe one day I will. It would make it so much easier to take care of all the things I would like to take care of if I could at the least make enough to pay off all the debts that we owe. Anyway, I am working on improving my writing I just need to work harder at it. and stay focused. I am thinking of trying to write a book of some kind or other this coming year, maybe I will manage it. I liked you answer a lot. Very good answer
