My son is med-phobic!

I'm really having a hard time convincing my son to take his medicines when he's sick. Most of the time, we have to hold his hands and feet just to give him medicines. My husband would hold his nose for him to swallow the medicines, but a friend of mine told me that it's not advisable. Can you please give me tips on how to make this a lot easier for all of us?

it depends on how old your son is & whether the medication is in liquid or tablet form. If its liquid, maybe you could just mix it with some juice or milkshake (but check with the doctor that the particular meds can safely be mixed with his preferred drink of course). If its a tablet perhaps you could crush it between 2 spoons & mix the powder into food - obviously checking first that its safe to mix with the foodstuff. As long as he's young enough not to realise what you're doing, you avoid being the 'bad guy'. I'm aware that there will be people who consider it a 'violation of his human rights' but IMHO, if a medical professional is prescribing/advising, as parents we have to do our best to prevent/cure illness with a minimum of stress. I'd recommend keeping a careful record of what you mix the meds with incase of adverse reaction. I hope he feels well again soon

if you're giving your kid a tablet...put the tablet in a spoon and add a bit of water. Let it melt then put it straight in your kid's mouth. maybe you can tilt his head a bit so he won't spit it. My daughter used to hate meds so I have to tilt her head and bribe her with a glass of water but in the end it takes a few seconds before I give her water. Harsh way but she needs to take meds.

Ok , well I have 2 children my son used to loveee his medcine when he was about 0-3.. same for my daughter. My son from 3-4 now he hates it. Also my daughter does not like it but she takes it. Some times she pukes because she says it is so bad. But has she tasted Robitussin. Ughhhhhhhhh. That stuff is nasty, the medacine out now is not too bad thought. I have to bribe my son to take it with a piece of candy, which works. i figure if I am going to give him candy that is the perfect time and he will get his medicine too. So try that and also. Try a milkshake, he won't even taste it. Or juice but sometimes they taste it in there.
