I was so tempted to when I was houses selling for as little as $5000! But then I went on google and typed "house scam ebay", and I found a couple of posts that warn people not to buy houses from ebay.

Most of the scammers on eBay aren't really all that intelligent. As long as you're smart about how you use eBay and take everything with a grain of salt, you should be fine. Once I was trying to sell my old laptop and the person who bought it was Nigerian, claimed to live in the UK and wanted me to send it to Indonesia. Furthermore, she wanted to send me a cashiers check for $3000 (while the laptop only sold for $500), wanted me to keep $1000 and wire the other $2000 to someone else in Nigeria. This story should ring a few bells. I don't understand why people fall for this stuff, honestly. Just use your head, people! If you're buying something that costs thousands of dollars, such as a house, use an escrow service that you trust. That way the seller doesn't get your money until you are perfectly satisfied with the legitimacy of the purchase.

I read on some posts stating that you shouldn't buy a house on ebay because it could be a scam. Also many of the houses that are that cheap are either run down and require a lot of renovations. It could also be in a area where there almost no jobs, not near any markets, stores, ect. and out of the busy cities.

You have to be smart about that kind of stuff. Normally, if something sounds to good to be true, it probably will be. I restore vintage cars, and when I saw cars on ebay saying "Buy It Now" for $6,000, but I knew for a fact the car pictured would be worth an easy $40,000, that sent up a red flag. It is the same with houses or anything else people have for sale on ebay. The only way I would buy a house on ebay is if I could get to it to look it over and inspected before I started bidding on the house. Be careful out there people. Scams are rampant!

Probably not - and if it is selling for as little as $5000, id defi be suspicious. Theres nothing wrong in buying & selling on ebay but you have to eb cautious. id probably find something on the site and then continue negotiations face to face with the buyer for such a big investment.

not at that price.even if it were on the level, for that low a price,i'd figure the house must be totalled.there'd have to be something major wrong with it.

I wouldn't buy a house anywhere unless I went and saw it in person. There are so many things about a house that can be wrong. On the other hand, you might find that the house is a really good deal. You'd have to have the title researched and an inspector check over the property before committing to anything, though. I don't think that anyone can say that everyone on ebay is scamming.

Not unless the house was nearby, and had an open house date!... and I had some form of validation to know it is not a scam... I'd be to afraid to purchase anything that expensive through the internet. Althought I must admit I have watched Cars, and large expensive items freecycled... meaning given away for free. And some very happy people. - DNatureofDTrain

I advice that you buy a house you should see it first. It is suit you and your family or near your work or school. Secondly, you see it. You can make deduction. and ask the house owner to change their names to yours. After that you will pay later with completed land ownership documents. Or You should make a small advance deposit for running paper face to face. Not online making a house purchase. Because of too many unknown merchants are on eBay these days.

I have bought land on eBay before now with no problems. But buying raw land is not the same as buying a house. I would not buy a house off eBay unless I was able to inspect it first.
