Winter Shot

I love playing around with my digital camera and love taking photos of anything and everything. This is a shot from inside my house. It is my screen doors window with some ice crystals and dew and the icicle lights I have hanging on my gutters. I was oputting up more lights outside then was taking shots of the lights turned on. Then I saw this as I was shutting the door and thought this ought to be a great shot. I took maybe 10 snapshots before I got the one I loved. Once it gets really cold I will be taking some shots of ice crystals that form all over windows etc that I find. I think they make great photos. So what is your honest opinion of this photo? Do you like taking photos of ice crystals etc?

It's all a personal choice actually.
Irt depends on what type of photos you'll be traking as well as how much you're willing to spend. I own a Canon PowerShot A540. It is a couple yeras old and cost me a little over $100. Well worth it for a beginner too. Now the one I want now costs almost $3,000.

Last year I did a lot of ice crytal photos.
I love the way they are so varied and grow even as the shutter opens on the camera.

That is a real interesting picture. I was trying to figure it out with out reading the caption. I was thinking maybe a snow storm. It was interesting that it is through the storm door covered with condensation. It really gives it an stormy look.

That's what Ilike about photography.
Any item photographed does not always appear as what it truely is.

This is absolutely a beautiful and unique shot Grandpa!
I must try to show this to my husband because he is huge in photography and always looking to get different views of things etc.

Do you recall the ones of all the ice crystals I did last winter?
I lost those photos when my puter burnt though.
But I'll have more this year.
I did some editing to give it a brownish/sepa look but not totally.
Plus I messed with the shutter speed and Fstop settings.
Playing with it to see what transpires works a lot for
some awesome unexpected shots.

No problem Grandpa! I have always thought that my Husband would really like you but I can't him to sign up under me! He doesn't have a lot of time to spend on anything else anyway but I know he would like your stuff and I am sure you would appreciate his work in photography as well!

You always take such great photos...I wish I knew what kind of camera you have. I love taking scenery pics and winter and fall is one of my favorite times to take them. I've never taken any of ice crystals but I've seen some online. Thank you for all the wonderful pics.

I have a Canon PowerShot A540.
4x optical zoom and 16x normal zoom.
6.0 mega pixel.
It has the feature to add another zoom lens as well.
It cost just over $100 2 years ago is all.
Many great decent models are available for under $150 too.

Hey grandpa bob! If and when I can ever get a digital camera
you can explain to me how to use it! Can you print the photos
too? Or can you only look at them on the computer? I have
no idea about any of this stuff. I love the picture! I can't
believe that was from the moisture of the icicles on the
window. I just love icicles! They are really cool to look at.
I am so glad that you like taking so many pictures! I'll
get to see such a great variety of wintery things that you
post! And you get to zoom in on such intricate detail! I
really want one of those cameras too! But I was never real
good at taking pictures! Not even with my Polaroid! I even
managed to mess them up!lol

Yes I have printed out a lot of Savanna already.
The cameras come with a booklet for directions also.
I am still reading mine and learning each day.
And I've been using this for 2 years now almost.
With a digfital camera that is gone woith bad shots.
Editing is easy as pie and you can take many shots as well and not waste film.

Do they still sell the one that you are using? Or have they
upped the price and changed the make and model number? I will
need all the help that I can get. And I have no idea how you
get it on the computer! Do you think I can ever learn all that?
I'm so lame when it comes to that kind of technology!

If you blew that photo up, got it framed it could definitely sit in one of the main art galleries, because this I see as 'art' albeit I am certainly no art critic but compared to some of the pictures you see in art galleries, your shot would be superior. I like the way you have captured the ice crystals and the colours are nice and bright and it's certainly eyecatching, you certainly have an eye for art as well as photography Grandpa Bob!

thanks for posting such pictures.we never get snow over here and it is really lovely to see something which i havent seen before.i do not know how to transfer photos taken from my digicam to the computer.once i learn how to do it , will bombard mylot with all the junk photos.lol

Hello Grandpa Bob. You are very professional! This is a very beautiful picture. It looks to me like fireworks at festivals. So it is already very cold in your place. But it is still very good weather in my place. The temperature is about nine to 18 degrees centigrade. It is fine today. So you start to have winter earlier than we do. Stay warm, Grandpa Bob.

I just enjoy taking photos is all.

That is a really neat picture! I have some cool ice photos on my hard drive. Unfortunately it is broken right now. I will have to take some new ones this year when we finally get some snow and ice.

It is a fantastic photo, they are the sorts of unusual pictures that I like to take although I have not took any pictures for a while now. I lack time for things like that. It is a lovely photo though.

That's a really great shot. Sparkly, christmassy, magical. I bet you could sell that one, if you wanted to. We are supposed to get a little bit of snow today/tonight. We'll see. Snow and ice is not such a frequent occurrence in this part of the country. I know you guys get a lot of it;)

Someday I may start selling.
But not until I get a much better camera.
Gawd imagine the shots if I got the onme I really want.
But I don't have an extra $3,000 or so.

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
I love the picture you took, it is so pretty, when you go outdoors, don't forget to keep youself wrapped up warm, I know this was taken while you were indorrs but be carefull when going outdoors.

Thanks a lot also for the compliment on my phot(s).
With my bronchial astham I am always bundled up warm.
So much so I start to sweat at times outside.
I've got to stay healthy to take care of dad.

That picture is very interesting. I knew it was lights, but was not sure what sort until I read your discussion through. It is really good to play around with our cameras. Sometimes we get really excellent photogaphs from doing this. I really like that photogaph it is very different and it is beautiful. It would make a nice screensaver as well. Keep up the good work.

But the one fall back for me anyhow,
I use it so ofyten each day I buy batteries like crazy.
Yes rechargables.
But they go bad after a lot of charges though.
But cheaper than film anyhow.

Hi Grandpa Bob, You always take the most amazing pictures and this one is especially beautiful. I think the picture is great. I personally never seem to have my camera on me when needed of it is not charged when I go to use, but have taken a few good ones in the past. I do not have a scanner but I took a photo on a normal camera a couple of years ago of my papa fishing on a rock and a semi-professional photographer told me it was a competition photo as I had captured it just right and it was in perfect balance, pure fluke, my four year old son takes better pics than I do. LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D
