Why do people always compare things against each other?

Muay Thai vs Tae Kwon Do MMA vs Traditional Christianity vs Atheism They always judge those "Styles" against another which has more or less success. But what these people dont realize is that its not the whole "Style" that has faults, but just how the people use them. Do you agree? what is your word on this?

I guess it is human nature. Actually making comparisons is not a bad thing. This is one of the ways in which we can learn about strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes outsiders can see better than us. But as you said it is how people use their styles. Most people tend to focus on what they perceived as their strengths of their respective styles. They also see only the weaknesses of their rivals. No humbleness even if they talk about it. As long as this attitude exists there will be no real truce between different styles. A large majority do not really understand the principles of their respective styles. As a result their behaviour goes against the true teachings. Most styles teach about humility and respect for others. What usually happen is that we do not really listen to what others have to say, and jump to quick conclusions. Some of us react negatively even when the others say 'hi'. What is needed is a change in the mindset. May your travels be storm-free.

it is the drive for excellence that people compare each other. without this drive and desire to improve and be better, there is no need to compare with the others. we will simply be content of what we have and are. but because we see other people doing different a yet effective things, we manage to change and improve. we even innovate because of comparison. so i think it is a positive atitude to compare from the others.
