Every thanksgiving is very exciting. What about the Black Friday of this year? The retail recession started last year. When real estate values dropped and people could no longer use their homes as piggy banks to buy new Hummers, kitchens, family vacation to Hawaii, etc. Not a lot of guys is insterested in it. Retailer were not expecting much of a holiday season even before the financial meltdown, cut back on their holiday orders and inventories, limiting the need for deep discounts to move merchandise. My forecast for Black Friday- lots of promotion and hype, causing local lines and stampedes, followed by bait-and-switch deals and upselling for the less sawy, and disppointment for deal hunters. What is your opionion?

I think your prediction is pretty accurate. I stopped going out on Black Friday because the deals weren't good enough to compensate for the crowds that I had to deal with. I expect the major retailers to have lots of really good sales throughout the Christmas season so I don't plan on shopping early. Actually, I never shop early...I'm a procrastinator and I also like finding unique gifts online, too.
