Hi all!As some of you know, I'm the den mother to 5 wonderful and very intelligent Webelo cub scouts. (ages 9-10) One of the badge requirements is engineering. I found on the BSA website a project that they can work on... building a bridge out of newspaper strong enough to hold 3 scouts. All they get to use is newspaper and a roll of tape. (like I need a 5 foot bridge spanning my living room. LOL) Right now, I'm researching everything there is to know about bridges, and we'll be spending some time talking about how we want to construct this puppy. I can find all kinds of sites building with toothpicks and popcicle sticks-- Nothing with newspaper. I want the boys to brainstorm, but I want some idea which direction to point them. I think they will get more out of the lessons, too, if the structure is large enough to hold them. I don't want anything like the I-35 bridge in Minnesota that collapsed, either. Any suggestions? Websites that you could suggest? Thanks for your help!!
