How many times do you have to do an exercise before it becomes easy?

In April we moved from the first floor to the 4th floor, so in an effort to take advantage and get some exercise, I decided I would take the stairs up on average once a day, sometimes less, sometimes more. Now it's November and I've done the stairs 3-4 times a week since April, yet when I reach the top I am still out of breath! So I wonder, when will this be easy for me? BUT, I just now am thinking. Back in April I used to walk the stairs, now I jog up. So perhaps I did improve because now I can jog up. Do you ever get frustrated when you don't see improvement or you find an exercise still is very hard? Do you track data to see how fast you did the exercise and if you got better? I'm starting to think I should time myself up the stairs and find out if I'm improving that way. I'm definitely going faster than when I used to just walk it, but being out of breath makes it seem like I haven't improved.
