November 21, 2008 I have this extreme need for spaghetti very frequently, and for years I just could not and for that matter still cannot do without the stuff. After all this spaghetti eating I began feeling twinges of confusion about this constant desire and so I reasearched pasta and it turns out that while it is not the healthiest food it is also a food that promotes serotonin production and therefore it has a calming quality or a stress reduction quality!! I never would have guessed? Any other spaghetti lovers out there? Have you noticed any stress relief when you have pasta? Do you experience any mood changes with certain foods?

i love spaghetti too, but have never heard of the fact that it promotes serotonin production. all along, i thought the effect on my mood brought about by spaghetti was solely because i associate spaghetti with children's parties.

My Mom makes AWESOME homemade spaghetti (at least I think so) :) But each time I go home to do laundry or just to visit, I ask if we can have spaghetti. It's just not the same when I make it. Hmmm...the stress reducing information is interesting...that is probably why I crave anything noodles/pasta one time a month. Sorry if that is too much information (TMI).

I think spaghetti is the the most popular staple in my house. My husband loves spaghetti, and I was surprised to hear him say last week, that he was tired of it. He used to eat it at least three times a week. We have cut down some recently. My husband likes clam sauce and I like tomato sauce, yeah we have a special affection for spaghetti too.

Every Sunday, I would prepare a simple pasta meal with meat sauce and the children really love it. Don't get me wrong, I'm still single and those kids are my nephews and nieces. Haha! I'm a pasta-holic, if ever there's such a word! I like pasta with any kind sauces on it. Does it have any calming effect? Probably, 'cause I feel really good after eating eat.

You know, I was just talking about spaghetti today with my room mate. Money is very tight right now, and one of the most inexpensive meals to make is noodles and marinara sauce. I was talking about how I really didn't want to eat spaghetti tonight, and then a pizza commercial came on and the topic switched over to that, to which he said "well essentially they're the same thing!"...It's true! But I am ALWAYS hungry for pizza! Weird. So, I guess pizza is more my comfort food, but they pretty much have the same effect. I eat pizza when I'm lazy and tired, when I'm rewarding myself, when my fiance and I have a date night, when I go out with girlfriends, when I don't pack lunch at work, etc. etc. I just never get tired of it, it always feels comfortable and delicious. And I do love spaghetti, I just need to switch it up. I think maybe an alfredo night is in order... :)
