If you had the chance to travel in time, what period would you go to?

Imagine you won a holiday to the past. The prize includes a two-way ticket in a time machine, there and back. You can only travel to the past, not the future. Your baggage allowance is similar to what you'd get on a plane (a couple of suitcases or something like that) and you can only take back items that you could realistically have in your possession - so gold, books, guns etc are OK to take back, but you can't take an atom bomb back with you (unless you happen to be someone who's got access to such items in the real world, which seems unlikely). Where (or more precisely when) would you go? What period in history? Classical times, the Middle Ages, sometime more recent? What would you do? Follow Jesus around with a video camera, attempt to change history, make yourself rich by bringing back loads of rare antiques, or something else I haven't thought of?

i am a HUGE history fanatic and i am most interested in the turn of the 20th century from around 1900 to around the mid '20s. there were so many inventions discovered then and life was very different and much slower back then, so that is where i would like to go if i could. i would like to have been someone that lived on 5th ave in nyc (with all the other rich people!)

I like the Jesus thing. Also, I would like to be around for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. So much of the Supreme Court's job is interpreting the Constitution. I wonder how close to the original writers they are getting. Or does anyone actually give a crap anymore. I would love to bring back some furniture, but it doesn't fit, so I'll bring home some gold. That way I can use it to get the furniture.
