I've posted last week about the news I heard that a certain garbage scavenger found a $60,000 (3 million pesos), he is now missing because police are searching for him, some of the money he gave it to his relatives ( and his relatives return it to the police only a sum of $23thousand ) and some are being grab from him in the landfill area when he ask if those dollars are true. he is just 16 years old and because of the incident he was afraid to face it because some lawyers and police said that he is now in the wanted list because in the first place he should return the money to the police or to the investigation unit. some would comment that he is not liable against the law because he found the money in the garbage.

i personally don't think this 16 year old boy should be liable to be prosecuted for finding this money, even if he hasn't handed it into the police. if it was a wallet found in a street, that you could dfinately say belonged to a person, then sure, hand it over... but to find any ammount of money in the dump, i say it's fair game and the boy should be allowed to keep it! some stupid sod threw it away, so it tecnically has no owner.

yes, finders keeper. That's why I don't know why these lawyers say he is liable. The money was being accidentally thrown by a househelp she thought it was a garbage in the house that's why she throw it away. Another story is the owner of the money said he is into a dollar exchange business. And when being ask with a proof that he is the owner, he don't have any business permit.

I think he is in no way liable to the law. Founder's keepers right? And he's 16 years old! Those dudes should no better than scare him off. And have they considered that he's probably being duped by some older dudes who're brainwashing him into giving the money up to THEM instead? Thanks for the comment on my discussion!

Until there is no legitimate claimant to that money then whoever gets it keeps it. The lawyer who is claiming that he is liable is just wrong unless he has proof that it is claimed by others and can claim it legitimately then he may be right. I think the 16 year old who found it should also find his own attorney to fight for him as the law may side the other if he would not defend himself from that.

I think at this point... the finders keepers concept was used by the scavenger... and i can't blame him... because as they say... there is money in trash... and he cannot be held liable for taking the money since he doesn't have any idea on who it belongs to... asking around is not a smart thing to do since a lot of people would certainly stake a claim on that money...

I can't help but feel sorry for this young man. I guess he was supposed to be lucky but now he's in trouble all because of the money he found. He must be really confused now. I don't think there shouldn't be a case filed against him because he really didn't take the money from anyone, it was found in the trash. The owner of the money should at least be happy that part of the money was returned at least.
