Job Loss Effects on You

So I figured i would use my experience to start a discussion. I'll start at the beginning... I am a 23 year old college graduate with a 4 year (BS) degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. Since February 2007, I have held 5 different jobs. Two I was terminated from. Why? Well the first was a part time job at a bank. I was also working another job at a retail store at the same time as well as finishing up my last semester of college. So due to not focusing on anything, I was terminated from that job (a month after I quit the retail job to focus on school and this job) for job performance. The second termination was also a bank because i didn't list the above bank on my application. I had worked there 2 months and had just had an excellent performance review and when asked about the previous bank i was honest and told them everything... then they terminated me. So what about the other 3... all lay offs! So as a result, I have become very fragile about the whole situation. I feel like such a failure and don't know where to go. I am so scared of finding another job because I'm afraid that the track record will continue on... not to mention the economy in the US sucks and the economy in SC sucks but the worst part is the economy in my town is worse... we had a large company just lay off 500 workers and most companys here have gone on hiring freezes! In the 3 weeks I have been out of work since the most recent layoff, I have applied for close to 20 jobs and have heard nothing! Nothing! Not to mention, 6 of the jobs I applied for were at the local hospital which guess what? Was one of the companies to go on a hiring freeze! This has had a huge impact on my self esteem. Like i said, I feel like such a failure because i cannot keep a job, my fault or not. Is anyone else in this situation? How are you handling your layoff or termination? I want to use this as a place to encourage each other and post possible job opps if you see something from that person's area... Any words?

I was laid off from my job over five months ago. The job market is hurting. You hear people say, "there are jobs out there", right, but when thousands of people are vying for the same job, it makes it hard to be the one to get hired. My problem is that the jobs that are available are not paying much money. I know a lot of people will say it is better than no job at all. These jobs are paying less than what I am getting in unemployment, and I am struggling very bad with the amount I am getting from unemployment. I am receiving $900.00 less a month with unemployment than what I was making when I was working. Believe me, it is a job trying to get a job. My local sunday paper used to have at least thirty pages for employment, yesterday's paper was only eight pages long. Don't get discouraged, I try to keep a positive outlook, but I do get down at times, especially when the bill collectors won't stop calling me. I wish you luck, and do not think of yourself as a failure.
