I don't know if it works out this way, but I have a lot of applications running on my PC. So does having more RAM speed up my PC or does it depend upon the number of applications that I have?

RAM do add more speed but you would still a faster processor to get your system working much better. Having much RAM and slow processor wont help anything, same goes to having a faster processor and only a slow RAM 1GB or RAM and Pentium 3.0 can be great for the performance of your system

I used to have a problem with everything being slow when I had too many applications running on here. I bought some extra ram and it solved the problem. It is pricey but worth it. A bit of advice: Windows XP really should have a minimum of 256 MB to run OK, and 512 MB to run well. Just some advice. The more applications the slower youll get and more ram is used up. 32 mb of RAM for every 100 mhz processor speed 320 mb of RAM for every 1 ghz processor speed If you need all those applications I would really get a few more sticks of Ram.

Like loxion has mentioned, RAM & CPU works hand in hand. Well, I hope this is a good anology - RAM: Random Access Memory works only when your computer is powered on thus it can be likened to the exterior & design of the car whereas a CPU is the engine. Put a Ferrari engine into a Mini is like having a super CPU but inferior RAM. Thus when the Mini is moving, it has to support the heavy engine but it has no aerodynamics & all in the design of the exterior. It's ok to put the engine in there until it starts to move. Whereas if u have good RAM & CPU, it's like having a good sports car with all the aerodynamics design taken into consideration plus a good engine to let it run. If u have a good sports car with a Mini's engine, it'd be a shame, wouldn't you say so? It's like having so much RAM but no CPU engine powerSome applications use more RAM than others but all applications use RAM. But also remember to take CPU into consideration as well. Pentium 3 1GHz with 1GB RAM running on XP might still be slower than a P4 3GHz with 512RAM

Yes,I think maybe U can consider buying a larger ram,I am using a 1G ram,it is kind of shortage to run vista on it. So the operation situation depends not only on the hardware equipment of our computer but also the software(program) we run. Now, the price of ram is much lower than before, especially a 2G ram co-use with your recent-used ram your computer is probably to be much speedy.

In general having more RAM does speed up a PC. One of the reasons is there is more physical memory available to the system. Most of us already know that virtual memory is used by the operating system when there is 'heavy' work. This include using graphics intensive programs and opening multiple applications. A bigger RAM means less use of virtual memory. Since virtual memory is part of the hard disk allocated for this purpose, there will be less time wasted by the OS writing and reading into virtual memory. The end result is a faster PC. - rosdimy -

Yes, more RAM usually helps, depending on how much you already have. For the most basic functions with XP, I would recommend 1 GB, more if you do much with it (music, videos, etc). Vista, I recommend no less than 2 GB. The more the merrier. It is true that it takes a long time for even basic applications to run from swap, avoid this by installing more RAM. Be warned: 32 bit operating systems can only recognize around 3-3.5 GB of RAM, but 64 bit OS'es can see a lot more.

Bulk-up your RAM. if you have the money, why not. it's a good investment. try buying the new models. having more RAM is like having more space for you to dance and do your thing. Some applications require a lot of ram. new releases of adobe requires atleast 1gb of ram. if you do a lot of multitasking, or running applications at the same time, you need a lot of ram. video/audio conversions needs a lot of ram just to be able to run accurately. what i'm saying is, if you can, buy it. but if you want to save. try to run one application at a time.

Ram does increase your pc speed up a little, but you should reduce your number of applications.

Having a more ram is a better idea it is certainly a good idea it may speeds up's your computer boot uo time and having a more number of running programs certainly slows your computer and try this kill all the programs which you do not use and try to configute them msconfig this increases your computer boot up time go to START MENU in that go to RUN in that type msconfig and hit enter u can see a window in that select msconfig and disable your programs which to do not use very often and you can open them when you need or else there is another way to increase your virtually ram try this
