World of Warcraft: Is it a waste of time?

I just read a review of the Wrath of the Lich King and it looks like an awesome gaming experience. However I still have not installed the Burning Legion, so it's a bit expensive to upgrade it all at once. To those addicted fans I have nothing against, however in my life I don't have time to play the game. What do you think? Does WOW look to you like a time-killer?

If you're not a serious MMO gamer, I'd suggest playing a freebie. OK, so it's not quite the same as having all the pretty graphics and all, but then you don't have to pay the subscription. At least you never feel like you're wasting money if you don't play!

It's not the money, but the time. The subscription for WOW is affordable, but the time spent on it just slips from my life.

Ah, I see. Well, I guess the best bet is to look at whether you want to raid or not. Playing without raiding brings the time commitment down by about 60% or more - I never raided, just quested, did instances, bit of PvP and hung out with my guildies. But then I played for fun, not advancement, so that suited me just fine. If you're into the gear and raiding, that's a serious, serious commitment.

The game IS a waste of time.. but it's a good time killer. Although addictive, you're the one to decide if you want to play or not. If you got a family going and everythings good.. then go ahead.. if not.. you should probably chill alittle unless you wanna stay single. WoW is a life killer, you start talking weird with friends, think weird, and can't be social enough to make more friends. Well, thats just me...Dont let what i just said offend you. i haven't gotten BC AND WOTLK yet.. mostly because half of me wants to quit and go out more but the other half is telling me to buy them. "YES YES YES!" IM AND ADDICT. I'm still in the process of deciding what i should do .. if i get bc and wotlk.. i might never be able to turn back. Thats probably what you should consider.. think about it. You can't go back in time to change the past.

Every Online game to me is a huge time killer. You can play for one hour a day or 8 hours a day and still have tons of things to do. Now for me I was heading down the wrong path in life. Games is sorta what saved me BUT they get very addicting and I tend to dream about them.(Need a gamer chick) LOL. I think WoW is a good starter MMORPG as its a little more fast paced then some of the other titles. You can pretty much play solo and make your way through quests and when you have more time to play join a group and raid some dungeons. Now the new expansion offers so much NEW content that hasn't been done in the past. IF your an old or new player, it really throws alot of differnet quests and such that you only will see with the Wrath of the Lich King. Not giving anything away so if your a WoW fan then I'd suggest getting the expansions!! Alot of the quests are fun and diferrent from the same quests just a differnet zone type in the past. I suggest atleast upgrading to The Burning Crusade until you get into the 70's as thats when alot of the new areas are available.

I guess WoW is fun as long as one keeps a balance between addiction and entertainment. Thanks for your reply.

I have been playing for little more than a month and I have to say that I do NOT think it is a waste of time. You can make friends, go questing, join guilds and make more friends. I think anything where you can make friends just can't be listed as a waste of time. And it's well worth spending the money to play, even though I'm on someone else's account for right now.

I personally do not feel as if this game is a waste of time. I have been playing for almost a year now. Having the time needed to play the game is sometimes hard to come by, especially for those that actually do have a life, but it is also a great way to get away from the norm. I do not have a good social life, so when i log into play, i enjoy hanging with the guildies and doing some quests. also great way to relieve stress by going into battle grounds and kicking some PvP butt. LOL!

Personally, I do not think of World of Warcraft as a waste of time, it is actually a fun game. It depends on what you mean by "a waste of time." During the time (the time when you would be playing WoW) you would probably just be sitting down and watching television. World of Warcraft is way better then watching television. Also, you could build your WoW characters up on your account and sell the account for a great deal of money. *If that is what you choose to do* I play World of Warcraft with my husband when we get time, it's a fun thing to do. While we are not into meeting people on there, we do play with the rest of the family that is 2000 miles away. Anyhow, there's my answer. :-)

Well, to come back with what everybody has said.. the game isn't a waste of time if you dont think it is.. Some people above me have said that you could make friends, join guilds.. etc.. but what about afterwards? When they quit? When they leave? Your "friends" are just going to be temperarily.. for the game... Not everybody is gonna be emotional and be like " hey dude? im quitting.. where do you live? i'll go visit you.. i loved the time we quested .. we should meet". You'll probably scared out of your shi**y minds to even consider it.. so what if something like that happened to you dude? You're probably just making up an excuse for you addictiveness to the game.. No offense..

Well as the person bellow me said if your not a MMO gamer then play a free one. WoW is tons of fun but only if you can play 1-2 hours a day or more. Other wise I would recomend Conquer 2.0 or Archlord but thats just me. Regarding WoW the thing about the game is it reminds me of a very very very good version of a 80's role playing game with the maps and stuff. So if you really want to get into it go for it, if not id recomend rolling a Human because of the Reb Racial. My 2 cents.

WoW, being as fun and addictive as it is and not to mention one of the best games that i've ever played is extremely time consuming and since you are having so much fun playing the game, you wouldn't notice how time flies so fast. In my case, when I used to be addicted to it, I used to spend most of my days indoor playig wow, maybe for hours a day. But now, since my addiction has been broken off, when I look back into that time I tell myself "what was I thinking" and I realised what waste of time and money it was for me.
