I like the challenge shows, especially when they're doing cakes. It's always neat to see what a person could make into a cake.

my favorite food network shows are Good Eats, Unwrapped, and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I'm not real crazy about the challenge shows, but they're okay. Some of those people are very creative.

Unwrpped is my favaorite too! I love that show.. heard new episodes are coming this summer! Can't wait! Alton Brown, Good Eats... he's okay, I just don't cook enough anymore to want to watch it much...I know alot of it, and what I don't know I am not really interested in learning. He has some annoying features on the show too.. just my opinion.... and Guy - on DD and D's.... I can't stand him on his Big Bite show...I can't stand it when he puts questions into the viewers mouth - "now why do we do that? Well, because...." or "We're going to do this, but why would it do that? Because....".. I really hate that! ANd I dont' think he does much with the food, but the DD&D's is a really fun show - I like to see how America eats...and all the great places in the country.

I love the cake ones too, but thing is... they look nothing like cakes and I wouldn't usually want one of them at a function of mine.... lot of times they are just so austentatious that although they are cute or amazing or whatever... theyjust aren't a "cake". It is mostly fondent and marzipan... no icing!!! What's a cake without icing!!! But boy the talent those people have is truely amazing. Bromwen is one of my favorites.. she has some amazing ideas and really pushes the limit on the requirements. I cna't think of one that I didn't like at all, some that were okay and others that were.. okay nice but not to fitting and then the ones that are fantastic and jaw droppers! But they all deserve credit... even if I dont like the cake... gotta admit, they have talent!

I like watching the cake challenges but they are always so out of reach standards. I mean, to call it a "cake" is silly as so little of it actually is cake! What I miss is the frosting and tube decoration. Now it is all fondant and creation with fondant - the bakers playdough. I think far more talent is required to use the "old fashioned" way of icing in the tube with the various tips for decoration - that's whre the talent lies, not rolling out and wrapping fondant. I like Bobby Flay's Throw Down - 8 times out of 10 he looses! And that is cool as it is fun to see "normal" folks have a great handle on cooking and baking and not just the celebrities.
