I can't download iTunes free single of the week???

Every week, iTunes puts out a free single that you can download. Normally it's a little-known (or not known at all) group, but a lot of times it's actually pretty good. So I'll download it if I like it, it's free, and free definitely works for me.
Well, during the Holidays, they've been putting on a free holiday song by someone famous. Most of the time I'll download it - if I remember! Today I went to listen to it and it says it's not available to people who live in the US??? It's Melissa Etheridge, I have no idea what song it is because I can't even look at it. Is there a reason I can't download her song? I mean, is she being banned in the US? I see she has concerts going on... I'll definitely try this again later because I see no reason why I shouldn't be allowed to download it.
Have you had this happen before? Do you know what causes it?

I'm sorry you are having a hard time with itunes. Did you know that Wal-Mart of all places lets us download one free every week?
I think there are a free more that do also, I just don't remember where, sorry.

This morning was a new song for the week, so I guess I missed the one last week :-(

I'm not sure what the problem is. I do know I heard some of the artist talking on tv about how they don't get any money from the free downloads. That is understandable. They were pleading with the viewers to pay for the cd's, downloads and such. So some songs may have started having a copywrite so that we would need to pay for them.

iTunes does their free download to help the new artists get recognized. They figure that if you can download it for free you'll try it. If you like it, you'll buy more.
For the holidays though, they usually have a single from a famous persons albumn hoping you'll like the single and buy the albumn...

I hope you where able to download it because it is a great song. It is Christmas in America by Melissa Etheridge. In fact after that I bought the whole album.

it'll be because of copyright and/or tracks being only available on itunes (or free) in certain countries. Maybe she's on a different record label outside the US and they've allowed a track to be free but not her US label?

I always download the free weekly single also on i-tunes. I have not had a problem ever but I think the UK version is different anyway.
Maybe it will be easy to get tomorrow. If not I would email them and tell them there is some sort of problem.
