I can sleep on a train if I know I have a long journey and if someone else is with me. Otherwise I would worry about missing my stop. On short journeys, I wouldn't be able to sleep anyway. I do enjoy train journeys. I don't enjoy having to change trains at large stations or rushing around between changes.

My favorite form of transport is train and I enjoy looking out of the window in the day time. It is lovely to sleep in comfortable compartment at night time. I can depart at 8 in the evening and arrive at 8 in the next morning feeling really refreshed. I try to afford a sleeping compartment because it is uncomfortable to sleep overnight in a seat. However I would say if I have to sleep on a seat there is more leg room on a train than a bus. I feel travel sick on rough voyages and long bus journeys. At night I slept in a cabin on a ferry but every night I have spent on a bus sitting up had been uncomfortable. I have arrived off buses feeling rather achy. I wouldn't want to fly on a plane for longer than 14 hours. On a long trip therefore I do stopovers. Planes are quick and convenient but the seats have little leg room in economy class.

I've never had the chance to travel overnight on a train. But I have the same problem on a plane. I can't sleep, no matter how tired I am. Probably because the seats are so uncomfortable. It makes trans-atlantic and trans-pacific flights very miserable.
