WalMart ethics... How do you feel about them?

Enough of us have heard horror stories about WalMart's ethics towards their employees. Because of the notoriety, they have improved some things for their workers, but not by much. I've experienced employees there (oh, excuse me... ASSOCIATES) who appear to be extremely disgruntled. I don't blame them! My son works at WalMart. He's been trying to get promoted for over a year but they totally ignore him. He gets great reviews from management but they don't want him leaving his current position because... get this... HE'S TOO GOOD!!! They said he's too valuable to them right where he is, so he'll never get promoted! How's that for a motivation-buster?!?! Do you have any personal experience like this? Do you have any strong feelings about WalMart, one way or the other? Please share if you do. I'm very interested in your responses!

I did not know that was happening at Walmart. I was just in there today and there was alot of employess that said hi to me and asked me if there was anything they could help me find. They did not seem to upset at the time. I cant believe that about your son though. If he is that good then they should recognise that he would be as good as a manager. They are doing him wrong in that way.

i have known too many people screwed over by them and i hate how they just take over towns and run out other businesses!! i try my best to NEVER buy anything there unless im stuck there and now i may buy something maybe 1 or 2 a YEAR instead of a few times a week lol.. they are also bad about environmental stuff.. they have been the cause of some massive pollution into some rivers but have covered it up.. they treat their employees awful as you have already stated.. and i just dont agree with anything really that they do.. their stores have gone down hill too.. they are not as well stocked in different items and the crappy quality has come first now not to mention all their toys seem to be recalled all the time.. naw i would rather throw my money away than to give it to them.. if i do buy something there it was because i was just not able to go anywhere else and really needed something!!

I don't think walmart has any ethics, they do not treat their employees all that well, and my son's experience in walmart has been awful as well, as a customer. We don't shop there anymore.

Believe it or not, I was eliminated as a prospective music director for a church one time because I happened to mention that Wal-Mart was one of my favorite stores. Naturally it was one of those uptown churches with lots of rich people.

There is a woman in my church who has worked there for years. She works in the bakery department. She is our music director and had always had Sunday's off - only thing she ever asked. Well, they got a new manager over her department that immediately stopped that. She works most Sundays and uses her lunch hour to drive to church, do the music and head right back to work! She has put in for several other manager jobs that she is well qualified for, and they have never offered her one because she is good at what she does. BUT she is divorced and can't afford to give up her job. So what does one do? I think it's terrible that they do her and your son that way. They are really stopping them from getting a good raise!

From what I've seen from the Walmart I worked for, store management has a lot to do with promotions of associates. When I was there we always had management that only cared about themselves. It appears that now there is a management team at that store that actually care about the associates. There's been so many changes there and a lot of promotions. The associates are now even receiving bonuses a couple times a year, something that hadn't been seen in that store in fifteen years.
