When I was young I went to a few sleep over camps for 2 weeks but I hated it, I was too home sick. My friend who was also the same age as me loved it, My son didn't like it either he went once and never wanted to go again. did you go to sleep over camp as a child, did you like it? Do you send your kids to sleep over camp?

I have some times in my childhood that I have blocked from my memory and some that are there but foggy and a sleep over camp is one of those that is there but foggy. It was a weekend sleep over, some of us kids from a church group. A friend invited me to go and I went. We did have fun. My son went on a weekend sleep over, it was a camp out type of thing. We had to buy him a sleeping bag for it. He went with some of the kids from a church. He loved it.

I am glad that your son like the experience, camp love was never for me, not even today as an adult.

My parents didn't have a lot of money and whenever there was a few bucks to allow the kids to do aything my mother made sure I got nothing, that's just the truth and the way it was. Many people over the years have told me how proud everyone was of me for becoming the person I did with absolutely no childhood.

I went to camp spent 2 weeks away from home and loved it alot. I didn't have tedious chores and have to deal with my step-dad arguing all the time that we didn't work fast enough or good enough so getting away from that was like heaven. I was able to make a few friends and it helped me see that it wasn't all bad and that their was hope for a better easier future.

Sadly, no. My mom won't allow me. Besides, I know for a fact that it would be very difficult for me due to my condition. Godspeed...

I went to 4-h camp for a week one year. I liked it, but didn't like it at the same time. I was never one to want to stay away from home for an extended period of time. I would stay gone, but about 2 nights was my max. I didn't like flipping the canoe. I loved swimming.... I liked the dancing... the food wasn't that great.... I just wasn't much for not having what I liked to eat and my own bed... other than that it was fine. My best friend went with me which helped some, but she had her money stolen while we were there and other things happened, so we didn't go back. It was just a bad experience.....

I only went to one summer camp for two weeks, it was ok. I got to meet new friends and do exciting things. I don't think I would do it again if I was given the chance again. I don't send my kids anywhere except maybe my parents, and their friends where I have met the parents. Can't trust anyone anymore these days, you don't know who is going to be taking care of your child when your not with them.

I did both. I had a best friend and I would sleep over at her house and she would stay over my house. And I was also a Girl Scout. As a Scout I went camping at least once a year. As long as I was with my friends I was too busy having fun to miss my Mom.

Actually I had gone to some sleep over camps back when I was a younger girl. It was on a bus with other young girls close to my age and it happened to be a church group. The thing is though its that it would only be weekend trips. It wasn't sleeping in tents or anything either. There used to be these lodges or small types of houses in which the girls would bunk in nice rooms and beds. We had a good time but I never except I wouldn't really get homesick because it was only for a couple of days on weekends during a particular time of year when it was warm. I can definitely understand what you say here about getting bad and feeling homesick. It is never easy to leave your comfortable house and bed. Some journeys are better off for just a few days rather than one or two weeks. That is a long time for some to be away from the familiarity of their lives. My son is five years old now and doesn't go to any type of sleep away camps however it would seem like something that he will probably like to do as he gets older. Sending him away for more than a week though I think would be too much for me to handle and my son might feel the same way. Of course it could depend a lot on how much fun he has. It is a shame that you weren't really able to enjoy your time at the camps.

Winterose, I needed to fix something with what I sad in my comment above. I meant that I can understand that you felt sad and homesick. Not bad and homesick!

When I was younger, I was priveleged to have my parents allowed me to sleepovers and summer camps. At that time, teenagers were used to throwing out slumber parties and tent sleepovers at homes. And I also used to attend Youth For Christ (YFC) summer conferences.I really love meeting old friends and making new ones.
