since i get my laptop, i was always wondering how to optimize the use of my laptop battery, so i have applied some tips that i foud on the internet like : 1-trun off, wireless LAN, is it is not in use. 2-clean your battery with a specific alcohol. 3-fully drain and fully recharge the battery every few months 4-turn down the LCD brightness of your monitor 5-close unused softwares 6-optimize your notebook's power management features : better power conservation in exchange for lesser computers performances.... and there are more tips that you can use to keep on the best your laptop battery performances what about you ? are you respecting these recommandations ? do you know other kind of tips ? do you use your laptop on battery or on AC/DC ?

Also, use an OS that can make ur battery life longer, vista has better power management compared to xp... and some say Linux uses more battery power than windows, so u choose which os to use...

hello there... i think the best way to optimize the laptop battery is you always constantly charge and discharge it... because if you always use the laptop on AC power, the battery will lose its charge and will leak... this will cause some serious problems... so constantly charge and discharge it...

yes that's right, this is the best way for optimizing it , it's callled "the memory effect", but it depends on the kind of battery that are you using: "Memory Effect" is a condition of reduced battery performance (and eventual failure)due to a battery only using those cells that are fully discharged and charged on a regular basis. In other words, if on a regular basis a NiCd or NiMH battery is only partially discharged before being recharged, it " forgets" that it has usable capacity to further discharge all the way down. The result is degraded battery performance and shorter battery life because the battery is using less than it's true full capacity. Li-ion batteries do not develop the "memory effect". NiMH batteries, while considerably better than their NiCd counterparts, are prone to developing "memory effect." However, proper care and conditioning over the life of a NiMH battery will significantly reduce the potential negative impacts. for more detailed explanations take a look to the link below : http://www.laptop-battery.org/batterytips.html
