Free Writing Contests - Anybody knows any?

Yesterday, I tried browsing for free writing contests. I know there are many good ones around, where you don't have to pay an entry fee in order to participate; but where are they? I wasn't that lucky yesterday. So, I thought I would start a discussion on it and collect various links from my Mylotting friends.
Have you participated in any free writing contest? Won a prize? Would you like to share some good URLs?

I am a member of helium and they have writing contests. I have never joined them because I prefer trying my luck with the Helium Marketplace. No luck there too. cheers!!

I have never particpated in a free writing contest. Please tell me more of how these contests work and hwo to find them. Sorry I have no links to share with you. But I am looking frorward to your response.
