My secret to good health? VitaMix! What's yours?

For Good Health, Use Daily - I have the VitaMix 5000 but now they're up to a 5200. It pulverizes avacado seeds into a powder in less than a minute!

A VitaMix is a 2 horsepower blender that is simply amazing! It makes the best smoothies, soups, ice-creams, flours (from grains and beans) and even those delicious and healthy nut butters that cost a small fortune in the grocery or health-food stores! The whole VitaMix set-up is about $400 - $500 and will give you years of delicious, healthy foods. I got mine in 2000 for $400. That's $50 a year so far and it's been worth it! What's your secret to good health?

I have a vitamix! I used to use it to grind flour from whole grains and make bread every other day or so. I had a sour dough starter that I kept alive to add to it. I completely agree that the vitamix is a wonderful tool. Since we got our Magic Bullets, we use the vitamix less than before. I grind oatmeal and the softer grains into flour in the Magic Bullet, but for the red winter wheat, the Vitamix is much faster, and brings the flour to the exact right temperature for breadmaking. One of my health things is wheatgrass juice. I used to grow our own and juice it, but now it is possible to buy the frozen wheatgrass cubes. I mix mine with pinapple juice and dark chocolate to make it more palatable.

drannhh, In my household, the VitaMix gets a year-round workout! When my daughter turned 6 months old, I started making babyfood with it. When it's warm, the wet container gets used a lot for smoothies and ice-creams and in the cooler months, I grind grains and beans to make flour for breads and pancakes. Garbanzos and Lentils make a wonderful flour! I just ordered the holiday recipe book off the VitaMix website (www.vitamix.com)for $12 last night. Hope it gets here in time for my next small group! Happy MyLotting!

Yes, the ice cream is absolutely DELICIOUS!!! I was surprised at the color of the strawberry ice cream, it looks nothing like the pink store-bought stuff.

excuse me but you don't know me and cannot say it is a choice, I am disabled with many conditions I did not choice to have, do not make assumptions about people, though being healthy can be a choice it is not always one,

In today's society, being healthy is really a concious choice. If you're unhealthy, it's just because you haven't chosen to be healty yet. If you keep doing what you've always done, you're going to get the same results that you've always gotten. If you're happy being unhealthy, that's okay too. Different people like different things. Happy MyLotting!

That should have been worded differently....EATING healthy is a choice people make. Being diabled does not make one unhealthy and I'm sorry if you interpreted my response with that meaning.

That is interesting. I have seen some infomercials like the one with Jack Lalane saying how good blending stuff is for you. We have a regular blender but we rarely use it.

jillmalitz, Your blender at its highest setting might barely equal the power of this blender at its lowest setting. The ones I've seen are usually 1/4 horse power and the garage door in my old townhouse was 1/3 horsepower. The VitaMix I have is 2 horsepower. It's amazing. I guess the VitaMix is more than a blender, but it looks sort-of like one. This thing cooks soup (really makes it steamy hot after a few minutes!), makes ice-cream (handles ice extremely well) and I make flour with it every morning in the cooler months and smoothies and iced coffe drinks with it in the warmer months. My daughter is allergic to peanuts so I make other nut butters in it as well. If I used it only for this purpose, it would pay for itself in a little over a year(have you seen the price of a small jar of cashew butter?). The next time my friend goes deer hunting, he's going to give me some deer meat. I'm going to use the VitaMix to make ground meat for hamburgers and such. There's so much that it can do, and it turns avacado seeds into a poweder too! I recently discovered that on their website and will have to try that the next time I make guacamole. Not exaclty sure what I'm going to do with powdered avacado seeds, but I have months to figure that out. Happy MyLotting!

Llonorra22, I've found myself eating more of a Mediterranian style diet, but I didn't know that's what I was doing until recently. I eat lots of legumes, rice, coconut oil and eggplant instead of chicken. I used to use mostly wheatberries in my flour but now I mix lentils or garbanzo beans with it. I might eat beef once or twice a year. What kinds of things do you eat?

If you've ever been to Starbucks or Jamba Juice, that's what they use to make their drinks. I make all sorts of iced-coffe drinks and smoothies at home, and it takes about 30 seconds, once you get everything in there. Mmmmmmmmmmm....tasty tasty!!!

What I do to keep healthy is eat healthy and exercise. I don't think you have to go out and get exercise equipment or things like that. What I do to stay healthy is not a secret either. Anyone can do the same thing. I don't have the VitaMix but a person doesn't have to buy a machine to be able to drink healthy drinks.

sunshinelady, Thank you for the response! The VitaMix doesn't just make healthy drinks, it can completely change one's lifestyle. It basically makes eating wholefoods fun and easy. I've been experimenting with making my own flours out of grains, beans and this morning I used oats too! Wheat berries make breads heavy and oats lighten them up quite a bit. Without my VitaMix, I wouldn't be able to grind the grains into flour. I don't exercise, never have really, and I probably should. I bought a couple of 5 pound dumbells but I'm going to have to make those my New Year's resolution. Happy MyLotting!!!

LOL!!! Good to hear that you're feeling so well! You may not be "on" a diet, but if you're eating, you HAVE a diet. I have a friend that has lived for years off of Stouffer's microwave macaroni and cheese! He also eats lots of meat and no vegetables whatsoever. He seems to be in pretty good shape so I know some people can do it. To your health!

I keep myself healthy with a very strict control on my diet. I avoid eating junk foods, drinking aerated drinks and all such stuff which is harmful in the long run. On the contrary, I eat lots of fruits, salads, fresh fruit and veg juice and last but not the least, I walk everyday for atleast 40-45 minutes. This VitaMix you mentioned, sounds a healthy food. What is it exactly? Is it available in the stores or can be prepared at home? I am keen to know the details.

Great idea! I should get myself walking that much each day. I'd forgotten how beneficial walking is supposed to be for the body and mind. The VitaMix is not a food, it's a tool that looks like a blender. With it you can make fruit smoothies, coffee drinks, vegetable soups or juices, grind meat, grind grain into flour, it's amazing. And nut butters. I'm saving a small fortune in nut butters because my daughter is allergic to peanuts and her favorite (cashew butter) costs $9 for a tiny little jar! I got mine at a Health Expo back in 2000 but you can also order them online. I just ordered a replacement part for mine along with a holiday recipe book. It makes eating wholefoods easier and increases the nutritional value of almost anything you put in it by crushing it to release the nutrients. One thing I really like about it right now is that it turns grain into flour in less than 2 minutes. I have so much fun cooking with it!
