Have you taken a self defence course?

I was just thinking over some past discussions I had on here & one from a good time back came to mind. A lady was describing how she'd been shown to defend herself in one of those short ( 3 days at the most )classes. While I commend her on taking the class she was under the impression that she was now "prepared". This is when everything screeches to a hault while I try to come up with a polite way to say....NO...NO, NO! These classes do have their purpose. They'll get someone motivated , thinking & shows them a few techniques. Thats great & helps instill confidence ( which is one thing criminals definently don't want to see in their target )but the actual techniques are so basic that it's just pure dumb luck if they work, especially against a more experienced fighter. Apparently the instructor didn't quite get the point across that they needed to continue their training further ( probably past the FREE point )& I spend quite a while trying to describe some more effective techniques to her ( which is kind of difficult over a computer I must add ). Have you taken any such classes? Do you feel you'd be properly prepared to defend yourself if the need arose? Am I talking to myself like a babbeling idiot again ? LOL ( just checking to see if your paying attention )

I did when I was in high school (that was in 1997 oh my god that is so long ago) in year 10. There is one thing I will not forget about that class THE INSTRUCTOR WAS HOT and it was an all girl class. I do remember a lot about what he said but do I feel safe just because of that hell no even the profesional karate players (or whatever they are called) can get hurt, so I dont have some false illusions that I am beyond that.

So your bored too now I see. I'm about to start develiping a pallet label jojitsu form I'm so bored. Lets see, wild ribbons swirling everywhere & lot & lots of papercuts, deadly papercuts. Almost sounds like something a polititian would use.

Not that it could ever compete with the perfection of your hibernating grizzly technique where you yawn real big & stretch out until your opponent lets their gaurd down & falls asleep as well just to get mercilessly mauled by you in your sleep. Most people trash talk saying " I could beat the %$^& outa you in my sleep" , you actually could. LOL

Yes, I did. I took one year of Aikido and I am thinking to go back for more training. I am also master of target shooting. All classes are good, but there is no guarantee for self protection.

I never have taken a class, but actually, if you can see confidence. I've been told (by a guy who taught one of those kinds of classes and is a black belt) that I don't act like a victum and many guys won't even mess with me because I have a tough, confident attitude.

Confidence goes a long way in keeping you off a predators radar. They tend to look for easy unobservant targets.

Not those kinds of short term classes. But I did take martial arts when I was a kid but decided to quite when I realized I'm not cut out for the physical stuff and so I concentrated on the books instead :D However, when I grew older I grew more fond of such activities and so I started again :D It's Tapondo, formerly known as Aikido - I re-started during the holidays and am excited to get back on the mat when I get the chance :D I take my classes back in the province because it's cheaper there. Thanks for the response in my discussion!

I've heard good things about Aikido. It's good you took some classes & didn't just assume you could handle yourself.
