We all know that there is much that we can do to help prevent flu and other illnesses but one thing, that I can say does work, is to get enough sunshine and/or vitamin D. I have read that at least ten minutes per day of sunshine is recommended, even if you sit by the window to get your sunshine, but supplements can help if you are lacking sunshine for some one reason or another. Here are links to some articles. Tell me your thoughts. http://www.healthy.net/scr/news.asp?Id=8826 http://healthcare-research.suite101.com/article.cfm/vitamin_d_may_prevent_influenza http://foodconsumer.org/7777/8888/Other_N_ews_51/111205352008_How_to_prevent_flu.shtml http://www.lewrockwell.com/miller/miller27.html http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/10/21/avoid-flu-shots-vitamin-d-is-a-better-way.aspx

I probably need to get more vit D, I do go out without sun screen, because I only spend minutes in the sun, but I don't drink milk, so I'm not getting it that way.

I live in Texas, so I'm sure I get plenty of sunshine in the summer. Because I hear you only really need like 15 minutes to get your daily supply. I'm sure I get that much just walking to and from the car. I'm sure I got no sunlight today, it was really over cast - oh well.

I do not use sunscreen, as many of the ingredients are toxic and actually can cause cancer (silly, huh) but when I do, I use a natural sunscreen that I found at mercola.com that has no toxins. I get plenty of sun in warm weather but once it gets cold, I only go out if I must and there is usually less sun, anyway. I take 1,000 mg per day but you can take up to 2,000, safely. I do get Vitamin D from other foods, too, so that is why I only take 1,000.

Oh, I forgot to say that you can get Vitamin D from other foods, too, just do a search, but just take a supplement.

From Bali? I would love to visit there someday!! Yes, if we go back to the old ways, getting out in the fresh air, hard work, time with friends and family, eat natural, we would be better off!

Yes I totally agree with you on this one because for one the thing about vitamin D is that it helps you absorb other minerals etc. so yes it is vital for health all round. I did not know too much about either but it is very important for our health to have those types of vitamins like C and D, C helps us absorb iron better and D calcium. Those things are so important for our teeth and bones and overall health. It can be hard for some sensitive people to spend too much time in the sun but I try to walk my dogs in the afternoon for at least half and hour so I hope I am getting some sun even if there is not much sun out.

When I cannot get in the sun enough, I take supplements. It sounds like you are getting plenty!!
