We all know the old saying if life hands you a bowl of lemons make lemonade but as much as I'm trying to stay upbeat I find myself more and more falling into a rut. I try to encourage everyone I know. I keep telling my kids and friends who are struggling that it will get better. The problem is I'm having a hard time convincing myself lately. I know this is just a temporary feeling. After the holidays I'll return to my usually optimistic self but in the meantime does anybody have some words of wisdom to shake me out of my depression. I need all the encouragement I can get right now.

it sounds to me like you are usually a very upbeat kinda person and keep everyone holding on so heres my advice to you. You have to keep it together for your kids and for everyone you know. You are most likely there little ray of sunshine for when things get tough. Thats one thing lemon down! and like previously stated, for the holidays you have people to be around and share the love and laughter with. In life it is easy to find reasons to give up but as people we always strive to come out on top. You sound like one of those people! So don't stress too much and have some fun this holiday, no matter how small or big that fun is. And remember, it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile!!

It sounds as if you have a lot to be grateful for. You have children and this makes the holidays more meaningful. I am not very close to my older brother and sister as we have different interests and have drifted apart as they live in Iowa and I moved to Nebraska. I would like to see my elderly mother more often. She turned 87 this summer. Although I only work part time I have to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as I work in the mental health field. Patients and clients have a rough time over the holidays and we try to make it happy for them. The economy is struggling and there are many problems in the world but I believe that we all have a purpose and to achieve that purpose we must keep our heads up and try to be optimistic. To this end I have friends who I try to spend as much time with as possible during this season. Take time to do the things you love to do. That can help to shake a person out of depression.
