Do you agree to legal highs as presents?:)

By legal highs I mean smoking blends that are psychoactive, resembling weed in effects, but are not actual cannabis, and so are perfectly legal.
I just gave one of my colleagues, a shy guy that smokes only tobacco, an extra special cigarette for his birthday, since he was open to the idea from before, but has never smoked anything 'proper'.
Do you agree it's an awesome gift to give, do you find it irresponsible, would you try it yourself if offered, or if in a group of friends that were enjoying a special smoke?
Law enforcement people in the area, if you read this discussion, how do you feel about legal highs? Have you tried any, do you have an opinion on them? Does your law enforcement agency have an official position on them?

Unless that person knows exactly what it is and uses it only as the result of a choice based on his free will in absolute knowledge of everything the 'smoking blend' contains and what is likely to occur. Without this knowledge it is wholly irresponsible and you would be liable for anything that happened as a direct or indirect result of him smoking it.
Overall, I would consider it not only irresponsible, but also rather pathetic as far as gifts go. It's Christmas, not Spliffmas.

they do know it is psychoactive, I did say it is like cannabis roughly, and advised them to smoke them under proper relaxing conditions. It is not an Xmas present, it's a B-day present for a colleague. He seems very tense and introverted at times, so I figured he could probably use an evening of unwinding. I'm NOT buying him some weird Thay massage, we're not that close :D
Figured 'the first joint' is a good B-day thing to get in one's early 20's.

I have never of these legal highs. What are they? And how are they legal if they are such as you say?
I would treat the stuff like alochol. Only give to adults, no kids. Also it be known what is in it. As I take medications I don't want anything to interfere.
