Can 2 Computers be connected directly for LAN?

I have 2 computers at home with win xp.. i need them to be connected for sharing data both have LAN cards.. can i just connect them with just the cable? do i need an Hub,switch? is there a way to connect them without the Hub?

hello there... well, as far of my knowledge about this, i think you can connect two computers with the same LAN... because you're just sharing the data... this is possible to do... i recommend you to buy and install router... when you have router, you won't have any troubles installing and configuring the connections... make sure the router supports multiple number of connections because some of the routers only got one connection for LAN so make a research before you buy it...

yeah they an b u need to install some program tht will enable u to transfer data or enable he lan settings or u can use a simpleer usb bridge happy lotting n have a nice day!

Sure you can without any hub or router if only 2 PCs using crossover method of networking.

Well, I guess everyone has more or less answered your questionJust remember the LAN cable you use to connect with your PC / router / hub is different from the one you use to connect from PC to PC

Yes, you can connect both computers using just a cable. There are two types of cables. You have what's called a patch cable and this is connected from your computers to a router, switch or hub. However, you need the other cable which is called a crossover cable. You connect one computer to the other using this cable via the NIC or Ethernet ports on the back of your pcs. Then you can share data and move it to and from each computer. Good luck. Andrew
