Meteorites are the ones that fall to earth. Probably started out as an asteroid though.
Asteroids are mostly found between Mars and Jupiter, but some have more erratic orbits (which is why some smaller ones turn to meteorites).
According the Wikipedia, the definition became more broad since I took science in school ...

Asteroids!!! Do I have them? Are you serious?
Asteroids are small rocks, also called planetoids, which revolves around the sun, between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. I sure do love to have one but the thing is, if ever one was pulled by Earth's gravity, it would turn into ashes before it hits the ground.

asteroids or steroids? which one? hehehe.. well asteroids are like rocks found in outer spaces, which at times small ones get into our atmospheres and turn into rocks.. :D i guess...or are you referring to hemorroids? hehehe those are like the ones human beings get on their butt usually lol which look like boils hahaha and are painful and swells...eiw!

I looked the word up in the dictionary and it said that an asteriod is any small planet between Mars and Jupiter. What did you think they were?
