Friends do you know that there is temple in Vellore, a town near Chennai, India, which is made up of pure gold. You better believe it, because I have seen it with my own eyes. The temple was built by a swamiji "narayaniamma", who says that the godess sakthi is in him. This swamiji has a lot of western devotees, and I could see a lot of white people in the temple. The temple has become a tourist spot and every day people are pouring in thousands to see the temple. Have any of you seen anything like this.

I have heard of it and some of my colleagues made a trip to this temple which is a Shakti temple. Having western disciples is nothing rare. Westerners generally would like to experiment with new ideas. Since they find Hindus having beliefs way beyond the comprehension of ordinary people, they are more fascinated by it. Many retain this fascination till the end and may mature as Hindus themselves. Some also give it up half way through. It is more important to know whether you found the temple spiritually attractive. Did you experience divinity. I will give you an example. If you go to Tirupati- the Lord of Seven Hills, the Vimana is covered in pure gold. At least the vimana(gopuram) being covered in Gold is prevalent in many temples including Kashi. But does richness alone contribute to the sanctity, of a temple? So, the question that would be interesting is Did you feel like having entered into the very presence of God? Keep visiting temples whenever you can, and if you like to and always keep it in your mind to see where you find presence of God. I will not be surprised if you happen to find in the most non-descript temple that you could come across.

Yes, a wonderful question asked by Gadhisunu. Spirituality is more important than the temple itself and I must say that of all the temples I have visited, I have not felt any spiritual connect in any of them, including the famous Kalighat Temple in Calcutta. All the temples are so crowded and dirty and full of pandas that you don’t even have time to have a proper darshan, forget thinking of God. You should think more of your purse The only exception was the temple at Kedarnath…it is such an amazing place. In the evening when the aarti takes place with a thousand lamps and bells reverberating throughout the surrounding mountains and you just sit quietly in the courtyard, taking in the wilderness, the mountains, the darkness, the starlit sky…you can actually feel Shiva around you.

Thanks for the response Gadhisunu, you have asked me a wonderful question, regarding spirutualy attractive, No, it was not spirutually attractive to me,but at the same time as a Hindu I worshipped the god and asked for a boon, and of course godess Sakthi is always kind to me and boon came true. Regarding the other question if I felt like entering into the very presence of God,no it did not happen here but I can honestly say, that it happens to me only in Adhi ParaSakthi Amman Temple in Melmaruvathoor, a small village, about 200kms from Chennai.

Thanks for the response munna007, I am an Indian, and every Indian knows about the Golden temple in Punjab. I have seen the golden temple in Punjab, but believe me, this temple in Vellore is much grander. You have to see this to believe this.

Wow, no I have not seen this. The only Golden Temple I know of is the one in Amritsar whose dome is gold plated. Do you have any link to this golden temple? I would like to find out more on this.

Thanks for the response sudipta, this golden temple is in Vellore, which is 140 kms from Chennai. The famous Christian Medical College is also there in Vellore. Regarding this temple this was started by one "Narayaniamma", who claims is a reincarnation of godess Sakthi, and it is called Narayani amma temple. In Amritsar and tirupatthi, only the dome is gold plated, here the claim is, it is entirely made up of gold and not gold plated. I do not know from where he got the money to build such a beautiful temple and the gardens which are all beautifully landscapped. I saw it about a year back, when it was just opened, and from what I heard from others who have visited it recently,is, that it is still more beautiful. There are lot of Westerners who are staying there and doing social work. Everyday they have this "Anna Dhanam", which means free food for all the devotees. Basically in south, the Sakthi temples are started in places where the "suyambu"(meaning a natural stone formation coming out of the earth) comes out, and this how this temple was also formed. This has become more of a tourist spot and most of the people who visit Tirupathi Balaji temple, also come to Vellore since it is only about 3 hours journey from there.Even our President is supposed to come to this temple in January09. Priyanka Gandhi visited it sometime during this year. I will try to get some pictures of the temple from my friend, because photography is strictly prohibited, and when you are entering the temple, you have to deposit your cameras and mobile phones with the security and take it back while returning.

Really a golden temple. No I haven't seen any or heard of one. You know it's amazing that people living in that area would not even try to dig out chunks of pure gold from it. I'm getting some naughty thoughts but I know it's bad to desecrate people's temples so I wouldn't try to take the gold.

If you tried to take away the gold from a temple, you what we Hindus are taught, "You, see if you take God's property he will, strike you in the eye- make you go blind". Whether that is true or not is left to your imagination, but Hindus would lovingly call you Mohammad of Ghazani.

Thanks for the response zackyo7, I forgot to mention, that it is heavily guarded and you cannot carry your cell phone or camera inside the temple premises.
