Do the airlines cater to business and first class too much?

Recently, I got bumped up to business class on an flight from chicago to london. I was amazed by the difference from economy. The seat was so big and comfortable...it even laid almost all the way down into a bed. It was the first time I was able to sleep on a flight. We got all this free stuff...bottled water, nice noise-reduction headphones to use, slippers, etc. The menu was even different...a couple of courses with dessert, and chocolates. And it was actually good! Free alcohol, too. Even the way we were treated was better. The flight attendants were polite and friendly, not anything like the rude treatment I've gotten in economy! This was just business class...I can't even imagine first class! So, my question is, isn't it a bit much? Economy class is packed in like sardines so that it's very difficult to sleep or even be comfortable. The food is terrible. The flight attendants are often rude. It just seems like to me that the airlines spend too much effort on making the better classes happy, and couldn't care less about the MAJORITY of their passengers. What does anyone else think?

I have never been in first class. But it does sound nice. But you do know they really do pay more forthem seats. So Iguess the stuff isn't all that free. I glad you had a nice flight. Have a good day. Your friend onlydia

Indojo, In the first place, you need to understand that the capacity of the upper class is so much fewer than the "cattle" class behind. So, the attention by the few attendants would be adequate for the very few. In the economy class, there will always be situations of lack of attention and service especially the flight is fully booked. You will have all sorts of passengers and that will always bring about all sorts of problems and issues. I just find that as travelers we should always be mindful not only to be punctual but to be prepared early like make your seat reservations well in advance, make your seating request at the same time as your flight reservations along with your meal preference if you have one. Check in well before the stipulated check in time. Advance check in if you can. However, I cannot say much for low cost carriers though as they have a free seating policy. But I suppose being early here will suffice and bring some comfort to the issue. “Chance favors the prepared mind.” by Louis Pasteur here would definitely stand out here. Cheers.
