I hate those who do not comment on any response in their discussions.....

There are so many people here who just do not comment to any of the responses of their discussions. I read a discussion, think over it, if need be, search the internet for minutes, frame sentences, type them down and submit those responses.... And finally, only god knows if anyone actually did read it and did that response help them. Ok, there are times when you do not know what you should comment for a response, but then, you can atleast say thanks so that I know that someone have atleast read it. For example, here was one guy, I think a few weeks back. He asked explanation of some technology and because I had knowledge, I responded to him. While answering I just ran out of specific/correct words and so I had to search internet and then frame my sentences. I wasted so much of time doing that and making sure that when some one reads it, he/she thoroughly understands it. But alas.... to date, I have not got got a response from that guy... So what do you people do? Do you comment on the responses that you get? May not be all, but at least enough so that all the responders feel that their idea was read? Like, If you get 3 responses, if you do not want to respond, at least you can respond to last one so that the 1st and 2nd know that their idea has been read.....

Not necessary to comment on all the responses but at least some so that the responders know they have been listened. Commenting also makes the discussion more interactive and this leads to better quality of discussion.... Thank you...

Right, it is important on responses of their discussions as they benefit from other's knowledge or experience. Got to learn the p's and q's right.

I don't comment to every reply and every discussion that I have started. It is impossible to do so. However when I write and start a discussion which I do require personal feedback yes I do read every post and make comments when I feel the need. It depends on the type of discussion.

Not necessary to comment on each and everyone, but at least, the one who is reading should not feel that no one going to read the response anyway....

we share the same sentiments, vishnu. i will also feel badly if i see that there are no traces of evidence coming up that my responses have been read. the trace of evidence will always be the comment made on my response. it may only be less than 5 words but that would be sufficient assurance that my posted response has been appreciated. it is true that most of our posted responses has been well thought of. eventhough we have been using the english language in communicating day in and day out, still at most times, we feel the inadequacy to be able to use the right words to describe what we mean to convey as we construct our piece! let us all remember that each response took a good amount of effort in order to have each one posted.

very very right..... But I think some people just post discussions and forget about them... They do this just to earn money. I think from now on, if my response is going to take much efforts, I will make it a point to check if the author of discussion have commented on the responses already got. Then only I will respond....

Well that makes no sense at all. What is the purpose of starting a discussion if you are not going to reply?
• India
26 Dec 08
But many people here are such, who do actually post discussions to sort their problems out and make friends... So we don't have to worry about quality discussions I think...

Just to earn money... thats it... they type in their discussions and leave it... they think they will get money if people respond and its ok if they do not look at it...

Sad part is, they do earn money. That method will get real tired, soon.

This is precisely the reason that I respond to EVERY person who responds to one of my discussions. You can check that to verify if you wish. But yes, I think that if a person has made the effort to respond then they should at least be acknowledged. It doesn't have to be a long response. Unfortunately we can't just say 'thank you for your response' as mylot penalizes users for doing that. In fact, when I first started on mylot I had a discussion deleted altogether for that. It wasn't every response that I said that to... but there were several (the discussion had over 50 responses and I probably responded that way to about ten of them). But I guess as long as our responses are unique then it's okay. I agree that if you don't receive a response it makes you wonder whether the person has even read your response.

Is it illegal to here to say thanks??? I didn't knew that... I just did some thank yous above, but along with some comments I think... Anyways, thank you....
• Australia
26 Dec 08
It's not illegal to say thanks but to leave exactly the same response to many responders is frowned upon by mylot. For example, if you said nothing more than 'thanks for your response' to 10 responders in a row then it wouldn't be appreciated by mylot because they want worthwhile responses that actually add something to the discussion

You have made a valid point and I agree with you that responses must be commented upon, the the extent possible. I make it a point to post my comments on the responses received, how sometimes I also fail to do so, due to paucity of time. It is always great fun to interact through comments and counter-comments.

Yes..... I also do not comment on each and every response but at least a few one in every discussion so that the discussion remains interactive........

I don't hate it. I think there can be some reasons for it. Some people may have no more free time to comment on responses. Some may be quite busy. Some may be lazy to do so. And some think it's no profit so that they don't want spend the time commenting on the responses. It's OK. I don't really mind it. It's up to them. But when I always comment to the people who respond to my discussions. I think it's a kind of appreciation. I love China

HI Vishnu, I know that there are some people who don't comment on any of the responses. I actually don't understand because this is a discussion site afterall. You don't expect a discussion to be one-sided. Anyway, it is their loss anyway, because they would have earned more if they have commented on the responses. There were times when I was waiting for an answer from them and they still do not bother. I wonder why. If they have some problems with email notifications (like I do), maybe I can understand, but don't they check whether they receive any responses to their discussion. Some people seem to just want to start discussion, thinking that it might earn them more money here at mylot. But it doesn't really work that way. Anyway I don't receive any email notifications from mylot, so I would not know if you have made any comments to this. Cheers! Keep mylotting!

I too have email notification problem. They come very late. Like for your response, I haven't received email notification yet.... In my case there is only a delay in notification but I think in your case you do not get notification only....

Hi vishnu_badlapur, Well i have know someone here that doesnt comment any of his discussion. He is a very good discussion maker for he always have more than a 50 responses and somtimes reach to 150 plus to each of his discussion in a day. I was amaze by it for he didnt respond to any of the responder. I think someone ask him why do he didnt comment to any of his discussion for he make a discussion about it that he does like comment for it will just deleted. I dont know if he is till active now for i dont see his discussion. But still i like to respond to a discussion that will comment my response. i myself make an effort to comment each to all who responded my discussion if i have time to do it.

I agree with you 100 % ,the least a person can do is acknowledge the member who has participated in his discussion.I too have had similar experiences several times.I did not express it, but now that you have done i agree with you wholeheartedly.I feel it is essential in a discussion forum to respond to people and carry the discussion forward.I feel that it is partly due to ignorance ..
• India
26 Dec 08
Yes... it's either ignorance or laziness.... I expressed it because now a days I find more people not commenting on their discussions and it happened with me many times. Now a days I do not respond to discussions that do not have comments from author because it may go un-noticed. Only if the topic interest me very much I respond to them.... Thank you....

hi friend vishnu_badalpur, all in mylot except those who do not respond to the responses to their discussions must agree with you. actually, it depends upon the attitude - how one takes mylot. there are some just think it as a money making machine. they do not bother to even thank when someone works for him and tries to help out. i too hate them. there are others and they are the ones who will survive and thankfully, are more in number, who think it primarily as a forum for discussion and have respect for others. before acting they try to feel what would he himself feel, if the same thing happens to him. i responded to all responses to my discussions and even selected the best response for most of them. when i read others discussions and responses i rate them if i find them interesting, even if i don not have anything to add there. but sometimes, i remain away from my PC, so i become late to respond. happy mylotting..

May be but such people really irritate... Thank you....
• India
26 Dec 08
YES...., I really appreciate your thinking and suggestion. I think , if one guy really get any valuable information for his quote during discussion process , then he or she should respond to , the people, who replied him or her as answer,SPECIALLY BY WASTING OWN TIME. Because ,one of the element or part of discussion process is that , one should be properly terminate his discussion with some appreciation and thankfulness , if he really get, what he want. That's from my side and experience. Good day....

I try to respond to the responses to my discussions. But sometimes I just don't have anything to say that wasn't covered in my original discussion or as has happened the response occurs months after I posted the discussion and when I see that there is a response another long time has passed and so it seems that the responder would never see it anyway. I don't sign-on to Mylot every day, in fact sometimes it will be a week or much more, and since a long time has passed it is hard to know someone has responded when what little time I can spare here is crying to be used with new things. However, that being said I do every so often try to go back and check for responses and also to check on other peoples discussions that I have responded to inorder to see if they said anything about my response.

I agree that persons does not commend back to their responders. I think that it is because they don't understand that being active in their discussions also means more money for them. If I don't know what to say when someone comes to my discussions I will use the MYLOT Code or wait until the next day to answer back because sometimes my brain becomes fuzzy and cannot think straight. But don't be upset still contribute. Happy holidays.

I always make comments to the responses I will receive in my discussion. Yes I know what you mean. I am also disappointed when nobody make comments to the responses I did to their discussion. But sometimes I just ignore the feeling. I just think they might be so very busy with other things and forget to check back their postings. But to me, when I post new discussion, I keep on checking it back of who had responded to it. I am excited to know their thoughts and I will not miss giving my comments to it. I don't know why some people just ignore it. It's true. it is disappointing.

I don't say that each and every response should be given comment but at least to those responses that we have put much effort. I too have to ignore it most of the times.....

Well I dont know about hate, but I do feel that mylotters should put forth a little more effort to respond to people who have responded to there discussions I try my best to make sure I respond to those who have responded to my topics, because I'm always very grateful that people have even taken the time to read and respond to my topics I never take anything for granted and I kind of enjoy reading what people have to say to my discussions, and I feel that since I take the time to respond to there discussions they should do the same for me vice versa.

I don't start discussions however I am not upset if the original poster replies or not. Hate is a strong emotion so I do not know why one would punish oneself over someone elses behaviour. I have already expressed my opinion or advice and if the choose to ignore or take my advice or opinion, while it is nice to get a reply I will not beat myself up over it, as I have already got paid and essentially I am done.
