Do you collect pop can tabs.!!!

My nephew needs to collect pop can tabs for school... they say it is for charity... and that they have to collect lots of them and give them to a company and then the company donates a wheel chair for some handicapped person... what i want to know is why pop can tabs.. why not the cans as well.... coz i saw one movie where the boy was collecting the whole cans....

It would take a lot of pop can tabs to pay for a wheel chair. I bought one of the light weight Aluminum wheel chairs last year and it was about $1,000. I save my pop cans for the neighbor across the street. He crushes them and saves them up until he had a pretty good load.Aluminum cans are down to 25 cents a lb now so no one is selling them hoping the price will go up. The kids do that here at school too with the tabs.

I used to work in a restaurant and we had alot of pop can tabs.... i used to collect them... but now that i quit.. i hardly collect.. unless i drink a pop and drinking too much of pop is not good for my health... i always remember to collect.. its like automatically i break off the tab...

The whole can would make more sense, but there's a company that will only take the pop tops, and they trade them for materials and supplies for kids in the Special-Needs programs. We've been collecting them for years!
