I am the grandmother of four, a set of twin boys and two girls. My grandchildren call me Nanny, why I do not know I have no idea where this come from or why they started calling me that. I don't mind it. I like it better than grandma for some reason. I have a cousin and her grandchildren calls her Nanny also. One of my sister's grandchildren calls her Granny. One of my ex co-workers said that her grandchildren call her Big Mamma. I have also heard some grandchildren call thier grandmother Mommy. My grandmother is deceased but we all called he Mo. If you are a grandmother what do your grandchildren call you? What do you call your grandmother?

I don’t have grandchildren yet but I do have nephews and nieces who call me aunt. Sometimes I babysit all of them and my parents do sometimes but they won’t call them nanny neither. They do have their own nanny but sometimes if they’re off duty, kids would go to my parent’s house and stay there until their parent’s will come home from work.

When my oldest granddaughter was little she called me mommie and her mother she called mom now all of them call me the name you don't prefer which is Grandma. hahaha My husband is grandpa to all but one and that one has always called him papaw. My mother's mother I always called her grand momma or when talking about her I refered to her as my grandmother. My dad's mother was always my granny. My kids and my brother's kids all called my mother granny.

GrandMa is fine, if they would have started calling me that I would have accept it too. I was younger then now it doesn't matter.

I agree, it don't matter what they call us. I was 39, one month shy of turning 40 when I became a grandma, I think my granddaughter called me mommie only because of hearing her mom calling me that. She called me mommie until she was about 4 I think. My aunt's grandkids call her memaw. My cousin's kids call her nana.

I am not yet a mother, but I am now 8 month pregnant, and I have asked my parents-in-law how my baby should call them. As I am a Chinese, my baby sill call his grandfather "Ah Ye", and call his grandmother "Ah Ma". And, he will call my parents as "Gong Gong" and "Po Po". As for myself, I called my grandparents "Gong Gong" and "Po Po" too.

Meemaw, and thats what all 5 of them have always called me. Its an interesting topic, because there are so many different versions of Grandmother. How adorable, they all are. Happy New Year!

I am not a grandmother yet, but hope to be someday.. My mother however, was always called Nanny and she was the greatest Nanny to her grandchildren.. I don't know where the name came from either, but Nanny was what all of her 29 grandchildren, her 30 or so great grandchildren and most of their friends called her.. She was called Nanny by her 2 daughter-in-laws and also by an older man friend who lived next door to her.. She was Nanny to everyone who knew her.. She is gone now but she will always be Nanny..

I agree that she was the greatest Nanny ever (and Mom) ever. I am about to be a new Nana soon. This baby girl will be my fourth grandchild and they all call me Nana. Even my kids call me this sometimes. I cant wait for Brianna to be born. Maybe Josh will give you a grandchild soon. Just what you need now.

My mother, the world's greatest mom and Nanny - This is a picture of the world's greatest Nanny or as I call her, Mom..
Brianna is going to be her name?? I am not sure about the kids giving their kids these strange names when we are getting too old to remember them.. I will have to write her name on my hand so I will be able to remember it.. I can imagine how spoiled Brianna is going to be since all of the rest of your grandkids are almost grown now.. I am waiting for Josh to do something, but we will see what happens when it happens.. And I agree with you, she was not only the greatest Nanny, she was the greatest Mama and I miss her so much.. Check out the picture that I have added of Mama.

I'm not a grandmother, though I am a mom. All of my grandparents are deceased, though I called both of my grandmothers grandma when they were living. I actually added my maiden name whenever I was referring to my paternal grandmother so it would be something like this; Grandma "Doe". I was closer to my maternal grandmother and for a short while I called her granny goose when I was little. LOL But I usually just called her grandma.

hello Chevee, I think when we reach that age we do babysit our grandchildren. And if that well happen, I think I prefer if they will call me Grandpa. They say, that taking care of the grandchildren is far different than taking care of our own kids. One told me that because we can not descipline them the way we descipline our kids. For their parents might get us wrong. I think I agree with that. When my both grandaprents were still alive, we called them Grandma and Grandpa too in both sides.

I used to call my grandmother grandma. I really liked to call her by different names but grandma was the best. In case of my grand children, I have never thought of it. I am still unmarried so its difficult for me to answer another part of the discussion.

Okay, So I'm not a grandmother and I'm never gonna be, because I am a boy. Mabye a grandfather..... Anyways, I am used to calling my grandmother "Dadi". You see I live in Pakistan and almost everyone calls their grandmothers with this tile, but some may prefer, "Ama" or "DadiAma". Try pronouncing it, I don't think you'll get it right unless you have a Pakistani accent.

Oh, I would hate to be called Big Mamma, lol. I am Grammy to my two grandsons. I chose to be called Grammy, to set myself apart from their other grandmas. They both have about six different grandmas and great grandmas. I love the sound of Grammy too. It is soft. I always called my grandmother "grandma".

Of course my grandparents are gone long time ago but I used to always adress them as grandma and grandpa. When my grandson was little he called me momma then as his speach got better he called me Grandma. Then came my graddaughter and she automatically did the same thing. I rather like the sound of Grandma and Grandpa. I have never really liked Nana and Papa, but I know a lot of kids refer to grandparents that way.

I have only one grandaughter, She's 2 years and five mos. She call me mommy, while my children called me, mama. I called my granmother lola (filipino word for grandma) same with my nephew's children, they call me lola while my niece' children also call me mommy. l found my granbaby calling me, Mommy, so cute that when where playing she would be giggling shouting "mommy, mommy". He he he, here in our country before only parents from well to do families were being addressed as mommy, that's why am feeling rich everytime my grandbaby and other grandchildren from my niece calls me "Mommy"...(lol)
