People visit Egypt by the droves and head to the pyramids. How good are these Nile cruises?

I went to Egypt a year or so and went on a Nile cruise. The boats used to travel all the way from Cairo to Aswan, but now they only travel between Aswan and Luxor and back. This is because of the threat from Islamic extremists who have in the past attacked tourists in an attempt at damaging the tourist trade and thereby undermining the government. (They want to establish a fundamentalist Islamic state in Egypt) The boats themselves are very comfortable and the service excellent, so if you are thinking of doing a cruise, I'd say go ahead. If you are worried about security, I'll only say that the Egyptian government treats this with great seriousness. The cruise boat that I was on had two guards armed with automatic weapons and armed guards were also in evidence at the main tourist sites along the Nile.

I wish that I could go to Egypt and if so I would plan to visit Cairo, the pyramids, Luzor and Aswan. I think that a cruise of a traditional sailing between Luzor and Aswan would be a special and memorable journey past many fascinating sights. I think that a luxury cruise on the Nile would not fit in with the same standard of the local people's lives. I am an independent traveler and not a tourist. I hope that if you go on a Nile cruise it will be fantastic.
