Sitemap?

What exactly is sitemap and how can i create one? some say you have to upload it on your blog but how and where?please tell me. Google's guide to create sitemap is very confusing to me.Please help

A sitemap is a guide to the pages on a website. Blogs don't need sitemaps, because they have a sidebar with links, usually archives, and/or a list of recent posts or popular posts.
