Would you go to a crowded place to count down with others for 2009?

I was talking about counting down with my colleagues and that came through my mind. Would you go to a crowded place to count down with everyone else for 2009? Or would you rather stay at home and count down in front of your own TV? Why?

I don't especially enjoy counting down for the new year, so I will be home at usual, busy as usual. For many people, this seems to be a joyous occasion of which is celebrated in many ways. I have been to New Year's Eve parties in my younger days and to New Year Eve church services in later years. These church services were interested in that they started their service later than usual, around 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. They invited other churches from around the area and out of the state to attend. They usually had a special speaker and sometimes several with lots of religious music. This was a Pentecostal religious service. I really enjoyed these better than the younger days of parties. At Midnight, to greet the new year, everyone knealt in prayer just before 12:00 and for as long afterward as possible. I suppose this ritual was meant to be that whatever you are doing at midnight for the new year, you will be doing all year long and of course with it being a church, Prayer was the main activity they wanted to encourage to happen often all year long. There will be a few of the church services like this, but I doubt I will attend those. I will probably working online somewhere.

Wow that's a neat idea! I like the idea of doing something at midnight that you would like to be doing all year long (in the case of your story, "praying"). I wish I could find a church in my city that might be doing something like that. Thanks for sharing!

Hello wondericequeen, I don't like crowded place and so I think the best will be to stay at home and count down with my family members. I prefer to celebrate the New Year in a small group like close friends or family and start counting down together at home. Crowded places just make me feel head ache.

I'd rather stay home and watch the count down in front of my own TV. Not only do I get a front row seat, but I don't have to drive anywhere or freeze my butt off just to wait and see the a ball drop, which happens every single year. I've seen some of these new year's crowds on TV and that's an awful lot of people in one place. Not my sort of thing, to hang out in a big crowd. Thanks but no thanks, I'd rather stay home.

Neither, but I would certainly not go someplace full of drunken people who think they are having a good time. We stay off the roads this time of year, especially at night.

This is an excellent topic of discussion. :) I never go into a a large crowd knowingly. Large crowds, for some reason, make me feel very, very, uncomfortable. I much prefer watching a count down in front of my own TV. lol Everyone is different. Have a great day!!!

I would prefer to count the coming of New Year only with my family. But just because I do so for many years now. I have never done this counting in the public place in a crowd, maybe it is also enjoyable? Maybe it is more enjoyable, because You can get the feeling that You are one small part of the world and that You do not have a huge power to stop the flow of time? Hmm...

Jan 1st is my birthday, With that being said, I will probably stay at home. In my younger years I used to go out and party with others. But since I have become older and wiser. I get tired quicker and just dont care to party as much as i used too.

Joining and go for place to count down for 2009 with everyone is good and i like it. I can see firework and some show after the countdown finish and we enter new year. Sometimes i scare to go alone and i will go if some people like my brother or friends will follow me because i scare something bad might happen. When i just watch live at TV, i cannot feel how good the show and the fireworks turn not so wonderful.
