Needles In Your Arm

Yesterday I went to the hospital because I was supposed to get surgery done. They had to give me an IV so they had to poke me with some needles. It took them four tries to get it in. They broke a vein in the process and made my hand go extremely cold while doing it. So my question is how much do you hate getting shots or needles put into your arm?

Not my favourite pass-time! haha In the Army we had to practice giving morphine to each other and putting on a saline drip. We all made a pretty big hash of it to start with and broken veins were the least of the problems. haha Broken needles were really tricky to winkle out! What it really did teach us was that it took a lot of skill to get it right every time and made us appreciate the ability of a nurse to get it right when we gave blood every two weeks.

That sounds rather terrible I've come to realize that I hate needles and that I don't really like getting shots or anything like that. I wouldn't want to get a broken needle in my arm that's for sure and that's probably just another reason for me that I wouldn't join the army. Thanks for your response.

Ouch that doesn't sound like they knew what they were doing! Thankfully this has never happened to me, and I go for regular blood tests, I have an underactive thyroid which I have had all of my life and I have to go for blood tests to check my thyroxine levels which have to be monitored and the medication adjusted accordingly. I also have a low calcium level as well, so I am used to it, I actually watch the needle go into my arm, occasionally I do get a few bruises in my arm but they soon go away. Needles don't bother me, besides I go for acupuncture as well and they stick needles all over your body!

I'm not a fan of needles and shots but I don't fear them. I just kind of want them to get everything done and over with because it's just annoying. I had to get two teeth taken out at the dentists and they used IV sedation and that was bad enough. He didn't have any issue putting the IV in, but the needle seemed to be a pretty big gauge and left a rather big hole in the back of my hand for awhile. It's been about 15 days since the surgery and I still have a bruise on the back of my hand. It's not as bad as it was but I thought it would go away by now.

During my first blood donation experience, it was disastrous. The nurse took the needle and poked 4 times. During the third attempt, she told me not to be scared since my muscle has tensed up. I told her "Try tell someone to poke this big needle on you for 3 times, and see whether you're scared?". And on fourth attempt, her face turned pale and she asked for another senior nurse to come over "quickly". At that time, I was scared too! I always have phobia towards needle and that was a very unforgettable experience. Luckily, my second blood donation was not that bad.
